About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Make the world a little better and a little kinder.

Discover ways and people to help create win-win-win magic in Detroit and in young artists' lives and careers.

ABOUT ME

I am an optimist and a creative person, someone who likes to lend a hand and find joy and kindness in everyday life. My life is full of contrasts and eclectic choices.

I write about workplace, careers and business topics - from serious to seriously funny. I know numbers but prefer stories with emotion, life's turning points and surprise.

I like to volunteer and try to help out at least once a week. I dance or go to art galleries or shows, to theater and to new restaurants. I like to travel and meet new people - on buses, on sidewalks, on CS! I cook and hope to learn some new soup or stew recipes. I like wandering walks and meandering chats and visits to art fairs, flea markets and tapas bars.

PHILOSOPHY

"I live an abundant life on a modest paycheck."
"Leap and the net will appear."
"Be the change you wish to see in the world." - Gandhi

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I host people in Detroit and show them our beautiful neighborhoods and some places where diversity, good food and community are the norm. I go to occasional meetings in Detroit, Ann Arbor, and elsewhere when travel.

And I may write about Couch Surfing or some of the people I meet here.

Music, Movies, and Books

Eclectic interest in music - blues, jazz, rock, country, some indie artists. Like to try new things - have been sampling some opera and orchestra lately.
Read a variety of novels, poetry, nonfiction. Also a lot of career and workplace books.
Adore Mary Oliver's poetry. Sample many other poets.
Movies: Last Train to Lisbon, Life is Beautiful. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, 1000 Times Good Night, A Room with a View and many many more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent a year on a picket line and learned to be resilient and both tough and kinder to others as a result.
Enjoyed bagels on the beaches of Long Island - and left before they got crowded.
Started a project pushing myself to try 52 brand new experiences - including kissing 101 people in a day in New Orleans!

Teach, Learn, Share

I know a good deal about business and the economy - and taught a bunch of high school kids something about them a few years ago.
Also glad to share my knowledge of Detroit, of taking risks thoughtfully and some delicious muffins or breakfast with guests!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Glad to cook breakfast. Happy to help with career questions or thoughts on changing your life or perspective. Conversation, wine, dessert, more ....
