Last year I participated in the Balaton swimming event in Hungary. This entails swimming across the Balaton lake, which is a little over 5 kilometers wide. I had not prepared myself at all, and got the worst sunburn of my life, but it was absolutely worth it. I'm really glad I did because it showed me that with enough willpower you can accomplish so much!
