About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel cheaply and make friends along the way hoping encouraging a visit to me.

ABOUT ME

I grew up in several places in the states and in Germany. My family was a U.S. military one. I have lived in 10 US states (mostly California) and travelled in all 50 US states. Lived in Germany, UK, Belgium, Netherlands, and Bosnia. I am a published author and working on a novel now. Some 23 years of my life have been spent in Europe. I am a wanderer. I worked briefly on the Obama campaign in Las Vegas, Nevada in October and the first of November. I am 55 years old and know German but not as well as a German. I have had many jobs including having the keys to nuclear missiles as an officer in the air force during Reagan's second term in office. I was a Park Ranger in the US National Park Service in 1990 as a contrast to my nuclear job.

PHILOSOPHY

Change and movement are what appeals to me. Life is relative and should be more open. Sharing is what counts as humans and anything that interferes with that is not good. Most people can do better than they do but may only need a little push to get there.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

This I am not sure what it is so will have to learn more to comment.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have done this and it turned out great. My first experience was in Malta with a great guy who is from New York State. I felt safe, comfortable, and at home.

Interests

I like history, politics, travel, architecture, music, conversation, cooking, hiking, camping, people, trains, cars, flying, and more.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like all kinds of music from classical to American country. Sixties and seventies music is appealing as I was young during the period. I like movies that build character of the actors and make you think too. Feeling the emotions are important. I like lots of books but I the one I am thinking of now is called Victims of Groupthink by Janis which looks at how important it is to see all pooints of view so that a decision will have a good outcome. Normally I prefer non-fiction but there are exceptions like most of John Steinbeck's books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I am amazed that I have been able to travel far and wide. I think the most amazing situation for me as one having opposed war was to have had the owner's manual to nuclear weapons. I studied the theory of deterrance but never expected to have practical experience in it on a daily basis.

Countries I’ve Visited
