About Me

Hello Masked Travellers !

My name is Xavier, I am a 32 years old engineer from France specialised in thermal performance of buildings. I am also travel addicted and need to cure myself as often as work allow me to do so.

After having a year off again for a big project : the panamerican road, from Ushuaia to the top of Alaska. I am back home in Lyon and just started a new job. So I won't get hollidays this summer and decided to try hosting through Couchsurfing. At least I will get to hear your travels stories, unable to live mine !

I share a big flat right in the center of Lyon and I may have some proper rooms available if my flatmates are in hollidays ! I will be happy to show you around and enjoy this after Covid new freedom with you.

I am pretty new on couchsurfing (created this profile in 2012 but never used it much). Most of the time I volunteer for accommodation using HelpX or Workaway websites .That is how I found myself building an ecological sustainable, character filled straw bale house in a national park in Australia, how I had the opportunity to work on a dinosaur’s dorsal vertebra in a prehistoric museum. I worked in some other places around the world, building fences with aborigenal people, helping morocan women in a very tinny village, farming in Greece, working in hostels, restaurants, mooving furnitures, sorting macadamia nuts, etc.

I am not the « I need my comfort, beaches and tequila sunrise » kind of tourist but more someone trying to experience a country by living with the inhabitants and being part of a project.

Looking forward to meeting you

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Even If I am more used to work for accomodation (volunteering), I see in Couchsurfing a similar advantage : You get to meet local people. How can you pretend to know a place without knowing its inhabitants ? Plus, locals are obviously the best advisers of their surroundings.
