ABOUT ME

COME ON, PLEASE READ -WELL- MY PROFILE BEFORE SENDING A REQUEST...

*My help WON'T be available until next notification. I need some time for me right now! No hosting and no hanging around, sorry. I won't reply any request.*

I am Aleix, from Barcelona, Catalonia (so to all the people who want to experience "Spain" and all these stereotype thing, don't come here, it's not the right place!). To your information, Catalonia is a nation itself with its own history, language, and culture. We only belong to Spain because we lost a war 300 hundred years ago. Next 9th November this year 2014 we hope to vote in referendum the possibility of being independent again. A strong and growing majority is for it. So, if you are looking for "toros" "sevillanas" and all these stereotypes, Barcelona is not your place. If you are looking for a place to practice your Spanish, you have to take in account that we are a bilingual society and that Catalan is a very strong language, with social reputation and used and spoken on streets by the population. It is our own and since more than 1.000 years language, while Spanish it's only spoken in here by the population, in fact, since 150 years ago. Catalan sounds rather like French or Italian sometimes.

*I am not saying that I have something against Spanish language, I don't. All languages in the world are beautiful. I am just telling you, future visitor, what's going on in here ;) *

About Barcelona. We are more than sun, fresh drinks, beach and partying. When I read requests with all these "ingredients" I feel bad and I feel used and mistreated as a citizen of BCN. I feel like (some of) you tourists come here just to ignore the rest of the city, learn 4 typical sentences in Spanish, party a lot, drink Sangría, and in conclusion invent a reality of Barcelona far from the spirit of the real local Barcelona. It is very sad to live in the surface, I think.

I am very interested in all the cultures in the world and especially in their languages...That's why I collect books of first words for children in all the languages in the world. :D

In summer 2011 I went for a short trip to the Baltic countries; it was amazing.

My travel philosophy is to explore not only big cities, but also the countryside. I have done so in countries such as Scotland, The Netherlands, the Baltic Republics or the Czech Republic.

I can help you with Catalan or Spanish (I have had some language exchange experiences so far and it has been fantastic!).

And, as we say in a song in Catalan..."Oh benvinguts, passeu, passeu/de les tristors en farem fum/que casa meva és casa vostra/si és que hi ha cases d'algú".

(Oh be welcome, come in come in, we will turn sadness into smoke, my home is your home, if there's someone's home anyway)

PHILOSOPHY

You are the owner of your silence and the slave of your words.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

More hosting than being hosted by now.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Mostly OK, also in the hospitalityclub website where I was before (here's the link to my profile there http://secure.hospitalityclub.org/hc/travel.php?cid=xitus), even though I've had one negative experience. That's why I ask your commitment to be hosted. I mean, if you arrange to be hosted by me, please don't go to another place without saying anything, as has happened to me recently. I am so respectful and I expect the same from the others.
