About Me
My name is Xuechen(雪晨) Zhang. I am from China, more specifically, Beijing. You can call me Jenny. That’s what most people do. “Xuechen” is a bit hard for you to pronounce, isn’t it? Maybe you could give a trial. In this biography, I will try to introduce myself from two facets in a creative way. If it’s not creative enough, please don't blame on me. I got to save some for my theater makeup class.
Background
I came to America to pursuit my undergraduate education in 2015. I am a sophomore at Earlham College right now. I love communicating with people and figuring out the motivations and reasons behind their words. That’s why I choose psychology and business as my majors. My mom was a mechanical engineer and my dad was a senior manger of a coral company. They are happy married. But recently, their career paths have changed a lot after finding out their passions. They are starting their own business that associates with healthy care area, with a magical technology innovated based on traditional Chinese medicine. I have a younger brother, whose name is Joy. He is five years old and lives with my parents.
Passions
I didn’t use the word “interests” here because my interests are incredibly broad. Curiosity is one of my most important characteristic, therefore, I am always ready to try out new things. This might be why I started french and fall in love with. Among all the things I have tried, these are the ones which flip my heart. I feel content every time I am doing it.
1st. videotaping
I began to work at the Earlham technology center in the second semester of my freshman year and I am still working there. What I basically do is using the camera to record the events that take place on campus. Initially, I didn’t take it seriously. I just thought it was fun to try and run on different cameras. I didn’t realize the usefulness of this technique until I started to make my own videos. I will upload them on a various Chinese video channels after editing them. Right now, I’ve already had a good amount of followers but it still needs more efforts. The reason I am so in love with it is more than just gaining followers and ego boosting. I want to share my life and positive values to girls who are watching my videos in China. A majority of them are not lucky enough to study aboard and visit many places. I wish I could use my way to enlighten them and motivate them to live a better life.
2ed Culture Learning
Letting me study in the US is the best gift my parents have ever given to me. I am exposed to diverse cultures via making friends from all over the world. Each dinner gathering with them is literally a culture lesson for me. Sometimes, I got cultural shocks, whereas it’s significant. It’s a part of my learning journey. Acquiring the two languages allows me to think in two mindsets. And I can take abundant advantages out of that. Chinese is my native language. From the collectivism of Asian culture, I learn to be considerate and being modest. English is my second language. From the individualism of American culture, I learn to be independent and dedicate my talents to the group. In my opinion。
I am not sure what's ahead but I am ready to explore.
