About Me

I was born in Middle-of-Nowhere, Missouri, USA - but I only lived there for a month, and I've been travelling ever since. I left home at 16 to see the world on my own terms, and had to do a whole lot of growing up rather quickly. Now that I've finished university, I'm looking for my next adventure.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To find my next adventure and meet new people around the world!

Interests

Other than the obvious - travelling - and the stuff that everyone enjoys - music, movies, books - my great passion is writing. I'm an independently published short-fiction author with a great interest in science and psychology, but I've written in just about every genre and form from novel to screenplay, poetry to prose.

Above and beyond all this, I am extremely political. I identify as an anarcho-communist, but at my core I'm a bit of an old-school hippy. I can generally agree with anyone broadly on the left, but as long as you're not a fascist I'll be able to find common ground with you.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Rap/Hip-Hop are my favourite genres, but I like good music from all genres, from country to rock to classical. My favourite artists (in no particular order) include Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, The Coup, Four Tet, Billy Bragg, Bob Dylan, Daft Punk, and many more.

Movies: I've studied film academically for 5 years, and as such, I have a vast number of opinions on movies. Don't worry though - I'm not a 'snob'. Whilst I love the classics, from Kubrick to Kurosawa, I also love some very stupid comedies - as long as they're well-made. Examples of the latter include MacGruber, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, and the Anchorman films. If you wanna laugh, you can't get much better than these.

Books: my other focus of study. Here, I generally prefer the 'classics', including Pride and Prejudice, Brave New World, and just about anything else of literary value - except for Jane Eyre. Couldn't stand that book. I sometimes read more contemporary books, particularly Chuck Palahniuk, and I have a deep love of WWI poetry. Currently, I am reading - and enjoying greatly - Tariq Ali's 'The Extreme Centre'.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Resources? Anything, really. I'm not a rich man, but I'm big on sharing and community. All you have to do is ask me, and the worst I can do is say no - I certainly won't judge you for asking.

Metaphorically? I'm an open book. Ask me any question and I'll give an honest answer. It's essentially impossible to offend me, and I have no secrets. But have no worries: I am only too happy to respect others' privacy.
