About Me

My name is Yana, and I'm from Ukraine. I really enjoy bonding with people and getting to know them. I appreciate a good sense of humor and love sharing a laugh. Generally, I'm calm and modest, but every now and then, I crave a bit of adventure to create unforgettable memories. I prefer staying with locals instead of in hotels because I believe it's the best way to truly experience a city – understanding how locals live, what they eat, and how they spend their time. I'm 23 years old and work remotely. I can communicate in English well enough for a decent conversation, though my speaking skills could use some practice. Ukrainians have a fondness for foreigners (except for Russian occupants, of course, haha). I'd love to hang out with you!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Currently, I would love to visit as many countries as it is possible as long as I am still young and adventurous. So, Couchsurfing allows me to consider visiting new places without spending a fortune on it. I also love meeting new people, sharing different cultural heritage. I also would like to hang out with my hosts in the city, if they have such a possibility.

Interests

I love to travel as much as possible, and I also enjoy watching good movies in English (with English subtitles). Reading books is another passion of mine, though I haven’t had much time for it in the last few months due to work. I enjoy taking photos, even if I’m not very skilled at it. I also love cooking and baking. Going for walks with my dog, Miya, is one of my favorite activities. I should mention that I enjoy hanging out with my friends and attending electronic music events in Ukraine. I’m also 420 friendly🍃🤭.

Music, Movies, and Books

I had my "Tumblr" phase (even though I never actually had a Tumblr account), and it still influences me today. I’m still in love with Lana Del Rey, The Neighborhood, Placebo, and Crystal Castles. I'm quite the melomane, enjoying a wide range of music. My playlist has a bit of everything: American rap and hip-hop, indie rock, some lo-fi relaxing tracks, old classics like David Bowie, and even some electronic sets. I can't recall everything, but my YouTube Music does. When it comes to movies, I don’t have a single favorite film or filmmaker. However, I recently watched some Wes Anderson movies and enjoyed them a lot. I also love Xavier Dolan’s films (he's a Canadian filmmaker). They were a bit confusing and complicated for me as a teenager, but I still appreciate them. I enjoy American sitcoms and TV shows, too. My favorites include The Office, How I Met Your Mother, Brooklyn 99, Friends, Trailer Park Boys (a Canadian one), Shameless, and more. As for books, I recently reread Pride and Prejudice and The Picture of Dorian Gray. I first read them in school, but now I’m revisiting them in their original language. I also plan to reread all the Harry Potter books in English.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was on a Ukrainian TV show when I was a kid

Teach, Learn, Share

I’m more of a listener and prefer to learn from others, though I’m always happy to share my thoughts and knowledge. I studied at the Polytechnic University in Lviv and graduated with a degree in Management. However, I’m not sure if I want to spend my life as a manager or leader. I really enjoy discussing economics, and my favorite course was Circular Economy. Since then, I’ve been committed to recycling, though it’s become nearly impossible since the war in Ukraine started. If you’re interested, I can share my experiences with recycling in Ukraine.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share some of the most famous Ukrainian dishes with you, along with engaging conversations and lots of memories. I’d love to watch a good movie with you, listen to your music, and share a drink. I’m eager to hear your stories and share mine, so it would be wonderful if we could spend some time together. I’d also love to take a few pictures with you if you don’t mind. It’s nice to have memories not just in my mind but captured in photos as well.
