Hello lovely people,

My name is Yannik, I am German/American grew up at first in Germany but then at a young age moved to California, with my parents of course. Grew up in both Northern and Southern California most of my life. You can say that the family is a real patchwork family, spread out in California and Germany. I grew up moving a lot from parents' houses to living in Haiti, Germany, and now most recently I call The Hague in the Netherlands home.

When I was in my mid-20s after have completing my culinary degree and working for just over 4 years in various restaurants and hotels as chef. I decided to pack up my things and move/volunteer in Haiti for 3 months. This volunteering opportunity wasn't through a website or an organization but more of someone we new, new someone who in turn knew someone else. What was meant to be a 3-month journey turned into a 7-month journey with lots of different kinds of projects and getting to know local communities. This trip has changed my perspective on how nice 'strangers' can truly be and gave me the unique opportunity to live/ experience a completely different culture than my own. I think if this trip didn't turn out the way it did, I wouldn't have the outlook and mode of travel that I prefer now.

Now that I have done a quite far bit of travelling through India and central America I can say that the world is full of beautiful people and cultures that aren't strange but that just haven't been experienced yet. Couch Surfing in my humble opinion isn't just about free accommodation but a place where you can exchange on a personal and cultural level. You can learn so much from one another. I hope that you will host me and in the future, I hope to host you.

This is a brief introduction of myself but I say let's just meet each other in person and exchange stories. :)

I love cooking and anything to do with food! Like really all the way from the seed to the thing we eat and cook.
Also, I love nature and being outside. No matter the weather I love to explore the outdoors. Hiking, swimming, camping, etc.
Also like to go running, climbing, dancing, wine, going out, meeting new people, beaches, did i mention nature:), I almost forgot SUNSET's! Really like sunsets and views!

2013 Worked as a chef for 5 years

2016 Volunteering Haiti for 7 months. Various educational projects.

2018-2019 Southern India and North Western India.

2019 From Cancun, through the Yucatán down to Belize, into Guatemala and then back up through Campeche back to Cancun. While I was in Guatemala did a 5-day hike to Lake Atitlán.
