My name is Yaser Mekki , co-founder and director of Moja, a nonprofit, non-governmental organisation based in Najaf, Iraq that works nationwide and focuses on democratisation, human rights, countering extremism, and youth and women empowerment and participation in decision-making.

A dentist by profession, I graduated from dental school at the University of Kufa and studied public policy at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, USA.

I worked as a project manager for several civil society projects and initiatives in Iraq.
