I'm from the UK, and am now based in a beautiful, small Javanese village on the slopes of the volcano Mt. Merapi with my Indonesian partner. It's about an hour from the bustling city of Yogyakarta. Here we run a small after school youth club and library for the village kids (called Sekolah Gunung Merapi), and we live in a lovely mountain shack with a huge garden and many animal friends.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To return the thousands of incidents of generosity I've experienced during my travels. To offer the chance to travellers to stay in this amazing village rather than some soulless hostel in the city. To make new friends and get new creative inspiration.

I can help anyone pick up some basic Indonesian and Javanese to help you on your travels here. I'm also a musician and play the violin and sing and would love to meet fellow musicians to jam. Would love to host anyone with experience teaching environmental awareness to kids and with tropical/non-tropical organic gardening/permaculture experience to help with the house and school garden (school garden currently non-existent)...
