ABOUT ME

I was Originally born in Peru and worked there until l989. I subsequently immigrated to Europe and in l996 married an English man and am now a British Citizen. I have been involved with various groups as part of my political activity and represented the Latin American Women’s group at European Level. I am a member of ‘Womankind’ and “Aqui Nosotras” a European-wide network of Latin Women trying to promote and exchange information about women’s rights.

For the past 12 years I have been actively, involved working in both Latin America and England in the voluntary sector.

My initial experience of working with displaced and dispossessed people was through my work in Peru working as rights promoter in a community project in a shanty town in Trujillo working with the Cork Mission (Miracle in the desert). I was responsible for training children, mothers and community leaders, creating awareness of their human rights. The whole experience gave me a deep awareness of the issues of social education development and the need for promotion of human rights in my country.

When I emigrated to England I became highly involved with the Latin America Community in London, and was appointed Development Co-ordinator for Praxis working for the refugees and migrant communities mainly Somalis and Latin Americans providing practical support and services. To strengthen the community’s capacity to resolve its own problems. Providing space and structure for the development of cultural educational and social meetings and expression and enable refugees and migrants to continue to work for democratic conditions for return to their countries and give them confidence and security.

I have live in Spain, Germany and now back in England
just backpaked around the world with my three boys and husband.
