About Me

Hello! My name is Yixin and I am an art historian from China. I am currently a PhD student in Norway. I am researching early modern fossil artefacts and their journeys across cultures - a very exciting topic and I love my work!

I am a friendly and sociable person with a great passion for art. Before starting my PhD, I worked as a content writer for the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Louvre. In my spare time, I've been a photographer for many years and I enjoy drawing and playing the violin.

I also really enjoy cooking and can make dishes from many countries, whether it's Asian food, Italian, desserts or some French food. My previous roommates really appreciated this and I hope to be able to share good meals with new friends too.

I look forward to meeting new people:)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love art, cultural exchange, and meeting new people while cherishing old friendships. As a PhD student, I want to explore as much of the world’s cultural treasures as possible in my free time. Many of my past hosts have become lifelong friends, and I hope to continue this tradition!

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy a wide range of music! As a violinist, I love impressionist composers like Satie and Ravel, but I also appreciate folk music from around the world, as well as R&B and jazz.

As a photographer, I am drawn to visually stunning films. Some of my favorite directors include Abbas Kiarostami, Éric Rohmer, and Akira Kurosawa—true masters of cinematography and color.

Books? Too many to count! From history and art books to sci-fi and fantasy, I’m always up for a discussion about the grand cosmic vision of The Three-Body Problem!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

During university, I worked as a journalist advocating for women's and children's rights. My investigative report led to the removal of illegal gender-selection drugs from Alibaba, China’s largest e-commerce platform. Later, while studying in the UK, I consistently spoke out for marginalized communities.

More recently, thanks to my first-aid training, I was able to help a woman who fainted on the streets of London until her family arrived.

P.S. As a former journalist, I have extensive experience in speaking out for victims, so please do not consider any disrespectful behaviour.

Teach, Learn, Share

I used to be a teaching assistant in East Asian art, and I love sharing everything I know!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Exciting travel stories and photography! Or perhaps you’d like to hear about my time living with monks in a Japanese Zen temple? I’d love to share everything with you!
