Hello!

My name is Yolatl Perez and I am a part-time student at Arizona State University studying Spanish and French. I love studying and learning languages! I've previously taken Japanese and Italian, although I am not so adept in those anymore since it's been a couple years since I took classes. I am also a part-time employee at Costco.

I enjoy literature from all around the world, particularly South American literature-- Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Borges, Cortazar, etc. In my spare time I do some yoga, exercise, go out to eat with my friends, spend time with my family or watch Netflix.

Je m’appelle Yolatl Perez et je suis une étudiante à temps partiel à l’université d’état de l’Arizona. J’étudie l’espagnol et le français. J’aime étudier les langues, et avant, j’ai étudié le japonais et aussi l’italien, mais ça fait longtemps et j’ai oublié beaucoup ! Aussi, je travaille à temps partiel a Costco. 

J’aime lire la littérature de tout le monde, particulièrement la littérature sud-américaine : Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Borges, Cortázar. Quand j’ai des temps libres, j’aime faire du yoga, faire de l’exercice, sortir avec mes amis et passer le temps avec ma famille.

Experiencing a different culture is a richly rewarding undertaking. As a child, I remember looking at world maps, my eyes digesting the simultaneous immensity and minuteness of the earth. A plethora of streets to explore, a myriad of local cuisine to savor, a variety of cultures to experience.

I wanted even more places to explore, more places I could fulfill a desire to connect with other individuals, who come from differing ways of life. As a language major, the opportunity to share time with a host, to share meals and conversations is a dream come true. While the differences and nuances of cultures are fascinating and to be celebrated, what I find even more rewarding is discovering the essence which connects humanity despite our numerous cultural variations.

I am interested in the intellectual and mental growth that comes with traveling and which fights intolerance and bolsters open-mindedness. I revel in expanding my circle of communication, and being able to learn from and challenge my perceptions of other cultures. Moreover, in world where it is becoming easier to hate one another for our differences, I believe it is of the utmost importance to work diligently to understand each other by experiencing situations which take us out of our comfort zones. Being abroad expands horizons, combats xenophobia and creates enlightened global citizens.

I think the best thing I can share with you is my open-mindedness and desire to meet new people. I'm flexible with whatever works best for you. We can explore the city together or I can leave you to your own business, communication is important for us to have mutually enjoyable experiences. :)
