Overview
About Me
Hi, I’m Yutang from Taiwan! I study in the US, but from August to December 2025 I’ll be in Copenhagen for an exchange semester.
I’m a person who loves to chat. Even though I’m not great in big group conversations, I’m very talkative and extroverted when it’s a smaller group of people. I enjoy sharing stories, observations, and reflections that come to my mind, and I especially love deep conversations about life and culture.
One of my favorite hobbies is keeping a personal journal (sometimes even a blog or video) to capture unique moments from my travels. I love reflecting on experiences and finding meaning in the small details of daily life.
I’ve been living abroad since high school, which taught me to be independent, adaptable, and resourceful. I always try to solve problems on my own and don’t take anything for granted. I see myself as a “glass half full” kind of person who is grateful for what I have.
When I travel, I’m not a party traveler. I prefer calm nights, cooking together, or chatting over tea. I love city walking, exploring local neighborhoods, and discovering small hidden places that tourists might overlook. I try to live like a local, not just rush through tourist spots.
I’m also a big foodie! I love cooking, especially Taiwanese and Asian dishes, and I enjoy sharing them with people. At the same time, I like trying cuisines I’ve never had before.
As a guest, I’m sweet, clean, respectful, and considerate. I always try to make people around me feel good through small actions, like a smile, a warm greeting, or even a handwritten note. I’m truly grateful to anyone who welcomes me into their home, and I’ll always do my best to give back , whether by sharing a meal, exchanging stories, or simply being good company.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love traveling, but for me, it’s never just about checking off tourist spots. I want to see places through local eyes, to learn through conversations and daily experiences. That’s why Couchsurfing is perfect for me: I can connect with the people who live there and immerse myself in the city as if I were a resident.
In return, I’d love to share my own experiences of studying and traveling abroad, and give hosts a window into Taiwanese culture, food, and perspectives.
On a personal level, Couchsurfing also helps me grow. Most of my daily interactions are with people my own age, but through this platform, I hope to connect with people from different ages, cultures, and professions.

Music, Movies, and Books
I don’t have one specific genre of music. I enjoy indie, soft, and acoustic music. Since I used to play the baritone, I also enjoy orchestral and acapella performances. My taste is quite broad.
Favorite movie: The Truman Show:
This film challenged how I view the world. It made me reflect on how many of my values or beliefs may not come from myself but are shaped by advertising, media, and politics. Since watching it, I’ve loved spending time alone in a café, park, or any quiet spot, simply using my five senses to understand the world. I also try to break free from internet “echo chambers” by connecting with people and listening to their stories.
The movie also taught me that only by facing difficulties can we discover what is real and truly grow. That’s why I constantly reflect on my strengths and weaknesses and remind myself to adapt and improve.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
At university, I became good friends with many staff members in the dining hall. Each time I walked in, I greeted them with a smile and often stopped to chat, sometimes for just a minute, sometimes for an hour.
Through these conversations, I learned about the behind-the-scenes effort of preparing food for thousands of students, the challenges staff face, and even local Rochester stories. This experience not only deepened my cultural understanding but also created a more welcoming dining hall. The staff felt valued and respected, and I was able to build genuine friendships outside my student circle.
It taught me that small actions like greetings and kindness can change an environment and make people feel seen.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you how to cook some Taiwanese dishes, share stories about Taiwanese culture, or show you what life is like at an international school and in the US and Canada. I can also teach you how to write or pronounce your name in Chinese and Taiwanese.
I’d love to learn from you: your stories, your city, and your way of life.
I believe Couchsurfing is not just about free accommodation, rather it’s about sharing human warmth. I hope to bring positive energy, good conversations, and perhaps some good food into your home!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I studied in an international boarding high school in Canada, where I took the initiative to promote cultural diversity. That experience taught me how valuable it is to connect with people from different cultures and backgrounds. I would love to share stories about what it’s like to live in an international community, and also about my own travels around the world.
I enjoy cooking and would be happy to prepare some of my favorite Taiwanese dishes for you. I can also share stories, photos, or even short videos that show the beauty of Taiwanese culture and daily life.
Most importantly, I hope to bring positive energy and warmth to your home. I believe that kindness and connection make a big difference, so I’ll always try to make my hosts feel appreciated and recharged for the days ahead, whether through good conversation, a shared meal, or simply being a considerate and friendly guest.
