My name is Zach Sweeney and I grew up in an old farm house in Maryland! After we sold the house, I went to living in the suburbs over the summer while studying at the University of Pennsylvania during the year. At Penn, I study international business and international relations, which I think reflects just how much I enjoy talking to people from around the world and sharing experiences. In my free time, I like to workout, talk, eat, go hiking, or (when I am really lucky) travel! I am joining this community in hopes of meeting more people during my short study abroad in Europe and then hosting people from around the world when I head home to Washington D.C.!

Everyone loves to travel, but sometimes it comes with a steep learning curve. For example, it can be very hard to break the tourist bubble, get to know local people, and find the best places to visit. I know I always have this problem when I plan a quick visit to a new city and there is nothing worse than the regret of leaving a city without seeing the most amazing sites or meeting the most amazing people. Not to mention, on a budget it can be hard to find the right guides or attractions. This is why couchsurfing is such an amazing option--I want to help visitors find the right places to see while also getting to know new places when I travel!!!

Uma Coisa Incrível que Eu Fiz

One of the most memorable experiences I have from my travels was volunteering at an orphanage in Cambodia. After a quick mass, we spent the rest of the day playing with and teaching the orphans English as well as about the world. We brought little gifts and toys for the orphans and took pictures with them so that each child could have a little memento and a photo from when they were young. The next day, they put on a song and dance routine for us and talked to us about each of their stories. It was an unforgettable and unbelievably rewarding experience. I really enjoy community service, especially when I get to hear the perspectives of those that I am helping or when I get to share my background with them.
