About Me

CURRENT MISSION

'a good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent upon arriving"

ABOUT ME

I like to bake bread, read good books, walk in the mountains, and go snowboarding in the winter.

I'm tall and skinny. A lot of times when people first meet me they think that I'm taller and farther away.

PHILOSOPHY

I keep to the basics, mostly. Try to be honest about myself and others, be forgiving, and to help when I can.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm mostly looking for a place to stay and to meet good people wherever I go. Circumstances keep me from hosting, but I'm glad to share information and my experiences traveling in India and trekking in the Indian Himalaya.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Pretty limited. I'm new to this website but I have friends who say it's great.

Interests

Baking, mountains, snowboarding, the art and science of cooking, learning anything, street food, and coffee.

Music, Movies, and Books

I really really like 100 Years of Solitude, Infinite Jest, and Breakfast of Champions.

I really like the movie The Big Lebowski, and most movies with Bill Murray in them, but not Garfield.

I'm not sure that sharing tastes in books, movies and music reveals anything meaningful about you or how you would get along with other people, but I guess it gives something to talk about.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A few years ago I had the chance to climb Bandarpunch, a 6316m peak I can see from my house. Got to cross glaciers, meet nomadic buffalo herders, and hang out at base camp.

Teach, Learn, Share

I teach math. When people find that out they usually

(a) Ask me a silly arithmetic question like, "What's the square root of 726?"

(b) Tell me about how bad they are at math.

(c) Ask me to explain calculus.

So, there's that. I can also chop wood, build a house, bake breads and pies or tune your skis/snowboard. I want to learn about most things, but I'm really interested in legends and folk stories from the places I visit.

Countries I’ve Visited

Bhutan, India, New Zealand, South Korea, Thailand

Countries I’ve Lived In

Australia, India, United States
