Who am I.
I am Russian, born in Kazakhstan. I lived in East Siberian Yakutia from the age of 5 to 17, and I studied Russian at school with a teacher who was Kazakh by ethnicity (it sounds funny now, but at the time it was completely normal).
As a child, I went to summer camps both in the far east of the USSR (Vladivostok) and the far west of the USSR (near the Moldovan–Romanian border). Every year, I traveled by train from Yakutia to Kazakhstan and back—a three-day journey each way. I also crossed more than 7,000 km across the country by car with my parents.
Because of this, traveling is in my blood, and I find it difficult and boring to stay in one place for too long.
I’ve walked the Lycian Way in Turkey twice (about 500 km each time), crossed Cyprus on foot (250 km), cycled through Thailand, Malaysia, and Laos on a folding bike, sailed in Thailand on a self-built sailing catamaran, and done many other weird and crazy things :).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I think a country itself is often not the real “top-10 must-see” highlight in travel guides—the people who live there are. Getting to know locals and trying to understand their way of life, even a little, is why I use CS when I travel. As a traveler, I use CS to meet different people in different places, to discover all the colors and sides of life, and because it gives me flexibility while traveling.
Remembering all the people I’ve met and who welcomed me into their homes, I try to give back the same warmth I received from my hosts to my guests. CS really feels like a huge wheel of kindness and hospitality, and I do my best to keep it turning.
Interests
My passion is any kind of outdoor activity: hiking, biking, sailing, rafting, camping, canoeing, and paddleboardin.
Last year's mostly I travel in Asia by scooter or motorcycle.
I love working with my hands in my workshop—building things, repairing them, fixing what can be fixed—reading books, and keeping myself in good shape. I don’t really like big cities; I prefer the countryside and nature. I enjoy my dacha and the simple life there in summer: planting vegetables and improving the place.
I prefer simple food: more vegetables and less meat. I’m flexitarian, so I can eat whatever is available at the moment (only meat? fine. Only carrots? a carrot it is!). I have no mental or health-related food restrictions, which makes traveling very easy for me. I don’t drink alcohol or smoke, and I try to live a healthy lifestyle as much as possible—but I’m not obsessed with “super healthy living” at all.
