ABOUT ME

Hello everybody! I always have a bit of difficulty of trying to accurately describe myself - but hey, here it goes. I'm a doctoral student studying German literature/Philosophy (I'm interested in Nietzsche's literary style and the implications it has on his philosophy - especially with regards to discipleship and Übermenschen)

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy is to think thoroughly about your beliefs and positions and then not apologize for them. However it is also necessary to be polite and be receptive to differing opinions and be honest enough with yourself to re-evaluate your assumptions when somebody exposes you to a compelling, yet different, outlook. Or put in another way: be true to your beliefs, but not dogmatically so.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I don't have a couch available at the moment, but I'm trying to utilize the organized events. I'm happy to share my knowledge, experiences and views with you. And I would like to hear about yours!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

At the moment I am just starting out. I haven't hosted or stayed on any couches yet, but I've participated in some of the organized gatherings. I've heard great things from friends, and my experience thus far corroborates it. :)

Música, películas y libros

My favorite authors are Nietzsche and Dostoevsky. I also very much like Goethe, Schiller, George Orwell, Aldous Huxley, Flaubert, Tolstoi, etc.

I generally listen to "Rock" and "Folk" styles of music: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Elliott Smith, Sting/The Police, Iron & Wine, etc.

For movies, I like various types: Good Will Hunting, Lost in Translation, The Graduate, L'auberge espagnole, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, anything with either Cary Grant or Audrey Hepburn.

Hrm- a lot of what I've done probably is not unique from what many people have done. Maybe it doesn't qualify as amazing, but I've once rode on a camel and held a live rattlesnake...not at the same time ;)

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I'll be happy to share what I know. I can share what I know of literature, philosophy, history (especially European and American), linguistics (though I'm by no means an expert - I can discuss it in layman terms). Those are all fairly non-practical skills. As for practical skills - I've done lots of home repairs like laying flooring,tiling, plumbing work, etc.
