Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm currently unable to travel much, but I miss the companionship that is unique to travelers. I'm in a decent position to host, so I'd like to meet some new friends that way.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've driven 2000+ miles (34+ hours) from my home in the Midwest to the West Coast three times, and each time I've been awestruck by my country's range of beauty. From the Rocky Mountains in Colorado to Arizona's red peaks, Seattle's foggy sound, L.A.'s cultural diversity, and the empty, rolling wastes of Oklahoma -- it's amazing that all this is part of the same planet, much less the same country.

One thing I've learned from teaching in an ESL (English as a Second Language) classroom is that people are generally trusting and well-meaning. Though the struggle for common ground can be frustrating sometimes, it's far more rewarding to be patient and put in the time it takes to understand one another.
