Music, Movies, and Books
Movies-I am not very good with watching films and no matter how good it may be I have bad habit of falling asleep within 10 minutes! If do manage to stay awake I love "kids" films especially dreamworks (shrek series),Disneys "Lion King". Percy Jackson, Harry Potter.
Books-Favourites are science fiction and urban fantasy-favourite authors include (locally born) Neil Gamain, Kelley Armstrong,Rachel Caine,Clarissa Clare, Kim Harrison, Charlaine Harris and many more. Also love the lonely planet books, both the travel guides and travel experience books. Although I have told you some of my favourite authors I will pretty much read anything and everything :)
Music-anything by Enrique Iglesias, quite a lot of Paulina Rubio, a few of the older Madonna songs (like a prayer and true blue albums), Beautiful South (pretty much everything of theirs), quite a lot of Pink. If I am in the right mood I like the recent dance music although I could not put a name to anything (and have never danced even once in my life).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Went through a really difficult period once which resulted in me becoming agropbic and suffering from severe panic attacks to the point of being unable to leave my bedroom or function on any level.Decided to ask for help and visited a doctor who wanted to put me on medication and also advised me to join a local community group. Forced myself to try this group and one of the counsellers came up with the idea of doing something to help build my confidence and put me in touch with International Voluntary Service who gave me details of a workcamp that I could do. I took the chance and went for it-I literally went from being unable to leave my bedroom to forcing myself to go on this workcamp and one week later I was catching a plane for the 1st time, got off of the plane in Prague with nothing but an address in Karlsteijn and a hand drawn map by a local and found my way to the workcamp totally alone! Apart from teaching me to face a lot of my fears head on I learnt that I could do more than I imagined possible as well as helping others. The group of 10 of us from all different countries had an amazing time together while we renovated an old building on the banks of a river to be used for activity holidays for underprivelaged children. It was truly the best (yet terrifying at times) way to build my confidence. Even to this day, when I think that I can not do something I look back on this experience and remember just how much pleasure I had when I did face up to my fears and how much I would have missed out on had I given in to them and just get on and do my best to do whatever I wish to.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am not sure what I could teach others (except maybe a few kayaking skills) but I am more than happy to show them around portsmouth which I know very well having been born and bred here. Happy to spend all day revisiting places such as the museums-especially the naval ones-explosion, firepower and submarine-,the dockyard, southsea castle etc
I am pretty good at finding ways to travel and enjoy short trips to near (and far) cities such as brighton and london on a VERY tight budget. Good at travel plans, working out transport times, excursions, when to go.
I am useless with all the new technology and it would be great if anyone would like to help me learn a little more about computers such as how to downloading things, understanding the most commonly used programs.
Sadly I am not fluent in any other language other than english-hopefully someone out there would like to change this and teach me a little of their own language.I understand a little french and some spanish as well as understanding a certain amount of farsi (persian) when I hear it spoken.
