Hi, I’m Yao 👋 from Kaohsiung!
I’m an online Chinese tutor and also work with Greenpeace. Soon I’ll move to Turkey with my wife, so this is probably my last season of Couchsurfing in Taiwan.

I’ve hosted over 240 surfers from all around the world since 2019，and made so many great friendships. Hosting has been one of the most meaningful adventures of my life.

People often say I’m a very simple and genuine person — I enjoy small things like cooking Taiwanese food, chatting about culture, or exploring night markets. I don’t need fancy things, I just like sharing my life in an honest and relaxed way.

At home, it’s just me (and my friendly turtle 🐢). Sometimes we cook together, sometimes we share music or late-night conversations. I believe Couchsurfing is not only about a place to stay, but about creating memories with new friends.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I decided to move to Turkey for love ❤️ — and along the way, I’ve been deeply exploring my own soul and learning Turkish.
This journey has changed my life, from teaching Chinese online, to meeting travelers from all over the world, to starting a new chapter in a different country.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach: I’m a Chinese tutor, so if you want, I can teach you some Mandarin.
Learn: I enjoy learning about different cultures, daily habits, and personal life stories from travelers.
Share: Good food, local tips, warm conversations, music, and sometimes even a late-night drive around the city. And of course, tarot reading if you’d like to try something new.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can take you to explore Kaohsiung and Pingtung by car if I have time — from night markets to hidden local spots that tourists usually don’t find.
I love introducing travelers to Taiwanese food (street snacks, family dishes, or even cooking together at home).
If you’re interested, I can also share some cultural stories and history about Taiwan.
And something special: I also practice tarot reading — I have my own deck, and I use ChatGPT Plus to help guide the interpretation. If you’d like, we can do a fun tarot session together.
