About Me

Hey! I'm an American moving to Australia somewhere between this August and October (2018). Looking to room with someone welcoming and friendly. This would be my first time out of the country.
I am looking in the Melbourne area. But, am open to many other areas not near there, as well as areas skirting Melbourne.

This could be as minimal as a couch or floor space, or as maximal as my own private room or even apartment.

I am open to the arrangement being short term or long term. Most importantly I am to find something reliable for when I first arrive. That is my main concern at this stage. And then I can take it from there if that one is short term or long term.

I am a born and raised NY'er where i live now. When i was 19 i spent a year in Cali living in the Mojave desert. Before that i had traveled around the southern states for a handful of weeks.

Its been my dream and desire all my life to travel world. I have yet to be out of the country. At 28 I feel it is a good time for me to travel Australia. And this may lead to my travels amongst other parts of the world. Maybe not. I will see.
Thailand is right there after all. I may just pop over that way, and see where I go from there.

How I got into Au being the first country of choice is due to a chance encounter.
I took a 48 minute drive one boring day off to pick up a shoe rack a stranger was selling on the end of the shore. This stranger ended up being a couple from Australia. After talking with them about their life, facts, and learning that the age cap had been lifted to 30 a handful of years ago I decided that now is my time. And I almost didn't go. A drive practiclally across the island for a shoe rack? I really don't have anything better to do? I really didn't. And I'm glad as hell.
Now I am coming on a one year work visa.

I've been on my own since I was 16. After saving up by working overtime at my first job that summer I moved out into an apartment with friends by the end of the season. Even as a full time student I was still always a workaholic (2 full time jobs at the time of having full time school). Still am after 12 years. Only in this passed year have I learned to relax a little and not work 12 hour days 5 to 7 days a week.
Now I have much more time to myself while still supporting myself. The balance has been found. Hahah.

In school then I was a psych major. I now am studying to become a sonogram technician. Currently I am in an EKG class. For now I have toned it down to being a part time student.

The reason for my change is that the only logical choice is to give up on my dreams and find an interest in something that one can turn into a career much more short term. I can not wait until my 40's to begin a career. So, after having met a girl my age (with a more dramatic look than I) in the field, speaking with many grounded in their careers, and online searching I decided sonogram tech was for me.

For my early to mid 20's I managed a Gold Shop (2 of 3 locations). After I left I went on to clothing retail where I've been now for a few years. I have some background in modeling as well.

I had the luck to have grown up in a household of instruments and paint. I learned on them all, but, only carried with me a few. My favorite as a child was cello. Though, sadly, I have little retained present day. The only instrument I have left is a set of tablas. Through Cali it was my accoustic guitar. Unfortunately, I don't suppose it efficient to bring a pair of tablas to another country with me. It will be left behind keeping all my portfolios company.

As far as my personal interests and hobbies go; I enjoy art, creating things, good music, the odd and obscure, adventure, and science. I'm always looking for a good adventure. My book is 15 jumps away from allowing me to skydive solo. Next week I plan to go ziplining. A good hike is never turned down. Infact, it's possible I may be going for a 10 day hike in Spain followed by a good few days spent in the cities at the beginning of next month.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm not really sure I'd list this under amazing things. But, I skydive, and suspend. And some people see that as pretty amazing. I see it as things I have a good time indulging in. But, I could see where their coming from; having it in you to do those kinds of things.

I haven't saved a dying sick child in a flash flood in Uganda while carrying a dog in one hand keeping him above water levels. So, I'm not really so sure what to put here. Hahah. And this will be my first time out of the country, so, I don't have any foreign travel stories.

But, I have been self reliant since I was very young. Which you could read in my About Me. And that's another thing that I don't really think of as, but some times people see as, pretty incredible. Not as to things I've done, but, as to ways I am. So, this is about all I can think of for this section. So, hope these were alright. heheh

What I Can Share with Hosts

For all I can offer house cleaning.

If you're interested I can also create some art for you.

I also do modeling, so, if theres any photographers who need to add to their portfolio or websites I could provide that (details and limitations to be discussed)

I'm good at sewing (certainly, no seemstress, though. This is just basics). So, if theres anything in your wardrobe or something that needs fixing I could be of service.

For the feminine type I can offer my makeup skills. I am not a certified cosmetologist. But, I am, certainly, good with what I do.
