About Me

I wanna be an astronaut but before I couchsurf out of this world, I think I should give earth a chance.

Moved from Asia for maple syrup, poutine & Tim Hortons in May 2016. I actually just moved here for school, but at least I now know what a double double is at timmies! I wouldn't drink it though, coffee's not "my cup of tea".

Born & raised in Malaysia by an Italian-canadian and Malay who met over watermelon. It's pure coincidence that my favourite fruit is 🍉

I enjoy filming/ documenting, so if I'm your travel buddy you can almost guarantee photos/ videos!
(Unless you don't want to be in them, that's totally cool)

I love philosophy, history & science. I'm particularly interested in physics and nanotech concurrently. I'm calm, quiet but always thinking!

What keeps me sane:
Smile, breathe & go slowly.
Zufall(Fortuity).
This too shall pass.
Sheldon Cooper and Wolowitz

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

"There are two ways of seeing: with the body and with the soul (and now through phone screens). The body's sight can sometimes forget, but the soul remembers forever (screenshots work too, or google drive y'know.. Cloud..)" - Alexandre Dumas (probably rolling in his grave right now).

To live, laugh, learn & travel with locals & other travelers from all walks of life. To form friendships over maps by breaking borders & exploring all that is out there!

My mum started solo travelling at my age & I hope to experience even half of what she did, the faces she met & the places she went that made her who she is today. (And that literally made me. If she didn't venture to Asia she wouldn't of met my dad, that would've sucked quite a bit)

Music, Movies, and Books

MUSIC
I know almost all of MCR's songs off by heart. However, I prefer classical, indie or instrumental music, but appreciate all other forms of music too. Here are some of my favs:

Saint-saens the swan
Welcome Home (the Nikon theme song) by Radical Face
The big ship by Brian Eno
Breakers by local Natives
Girl On An Island by Alice Phoebe Lou
Waves by The Dear Hunter
Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel
Everything by City of the Sun (their song Everything and literally every masterpiece they've executed)

MOVIES
I like any movie I can draw a moral value or lesson from

Me & Earl & the dying girl
Boyhood
Ruby Sparks
Persepolis
The secret life of bees
The Hundred Foot Journey

BOOKS
too many!!
Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
Breakfast with Socrates by Rowland Smith
A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry
Peak by Roland Smith is a must read if you like Sagarmatha aka Everest, which I intend to summit.
Meditations Marcus Aurelius

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Summited Mount Kinabalu, the highest peak in the Malay Archipelago and Southeast Asia and went back down with a broken hiking boot sole tied up using string (worse than losing one of my shoes at age 4 in Italy, Prince Charming has yet to show up with it).

Camped in Terengganu, the east coast of Malaysia with 13,000 other scouts, during Monsoon Season ( 10/10 would NOT recommend, tent flooded on the first night).

Camped in Brunei and met the Sultan of Brunei who was also a scout. I have lots of scouting memories to talk about. Especially about the stories behind my traded scarves, pins & woggles.

Was fortunate enough to win a national science competition with my team that led to working with the United Nations on a zero gravity instrument project, but who cares about research on how plants grow in micro-gravity, right? (If you do though, just ask , I'd love to tell you how to grow beans on the moon)

And lots more we can talk about over a cup of hot tea!

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach Arabic writing, I have no idea what it means but I can spell and write!

I can teach you a bit of Mandarin and/or Malay which is kind of like Indonesian. My mum tried teaching me Italian but she said I used to just laugh at her. Non capisco l'italiano. Fare la gatta morta.

I'd love to learn how to ride a bike. I can skate on the road and on ice, heck I play hockey and longboard! But I just can't do two wheels..

I'd also love to learn more about Canada, I know very little of my own country as I have live abroad my whole life and was raised in an Asian environment.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My culture, customs, stories & upbringing as an Italian-Canadian-Malay, born & raised in Malaysia.

I'm quite shy at first but once I start talking you would of never guessed how many amazing things I have experienced. Calm waters run deep.

I'm well-mannered & clean up after myself. I'm not the best cook but I can (try to) make you a Malaysian dish! (AND wash up afterwards! I like washing dishes. I kid you not.)

I'll pluck a tune on a guitar if you have one.
I'd also enter a subhuman state of happiness if you have a cat :)

P.S. I'm potty trained
