About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Be there for my friends and family, learn.
ABOUT ME
I currently live in SF with my boyfriend and work as a software engineer, and am trying to explore more of the city. Outside of work I hang out with friends, quilt, and am sloooowly working on becoming a trapeze artist (read: taking aerial conditioning classes).
How did I get there? I grew up in northern California (there's a soft and a hard spot in my heart for hippies). I went to a tiny liberal arts college in Massachusetts, studied history and sociology, transferred to a college in Portland Oregon, finished, did a year of Americorps, travelled, and somehow wound up as a software engineer in SF...who knows how it all happened.
Otherwise: I like baking and sometimes cooking, patience is my weakest virtue, I want to pet every dog I see, I'm half Kiwi (New Zealand!!), I like talking about silly things and serious things, I'm trying to get back to reading books (paper and spine and all!).
PHILOSOPHY
Wow, big question. I live life because there's a lot of fun things to do and I try to reach out as much as I can. My connections to friends and family are really important to me. If I've learned anything, it's that the world is a ridiculously complex place full of ridiculously complicated experiences, views, needs, rationales, etc.
So I try not to judge too harshly and try not to come to conclusions too fast (difficult).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Participate in couchsurfing? Work? Life?
I've been given a lot by other people so I try to give back to friends, family, and the World At Large. I'm really excited to start using couchsurfing because I've heard great things about making connections with people you wouldn't normally ever meet.
The best travel moments are those that are unexpected and authentic - that sounds so cliche, but I think hanging out with people who know the place you are at is so much more fun!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have had some couchsurfing, mostly with family or friends...I am happy to sleep pretty much anywhere. In high school I used to fall asleep on the couch?

Music, Movies, and Books
Classical/folksy/rock/a bit of rap/indie/pop/oldies - a lot of different music. I have a soft spot for Etta James, Ray Charles, Fats Domino, etc.
I like reading a range of fiction and nonfiction. The last fiction I read was The Goldfinch and American Gods. The last nonfiction I read was Til the End of June (United States foster care) and Unfamiliar Fishes (history of Hawaii).
I like reading a book about the places I am visiting - I read a biography of Pol Pot when I went to Cambodia, a history of Hawaii when I went to the Big Island, and I'm about to start Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil when I do a southern road trip that includes Savannah, Georgia.
I like movies (and tv shows) too!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I got to bottle feed a baby ocelot and hold hedgehogs. I dressed up (badly) like Luke Skywalker and rode in a Star Trek vs Star Wars bike ride (Portland Oregon ftw!). And seriously, I live in San Francisco and get to see all kinds of beautiful/amazing northern California views. :)
Countries I’ve Visited
Cambodia, France, Guatemala, Honduras, New Zealand, Thailand, United States
