Sobre Mim

CURRENT MISSION

Jun-Aug 2025: USA/CAN road trip

ABOUT US

We are a couple, lived in a few countries, now whole family including two adult daughters living in AUS. Our home is in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, about 30 km from the city. We are very happy to share time, space and meals with hosts and travelers.

PHILOSOPHY

We have so many theories! Hard to share in a small box, much easier in person, with some red wine :)
Ok, for a starter, we can be called:
-Relational: "Happiness is in relationships. Forget about yourself to find yourself"
-Simplistic: "Life should be as simple as possible, but no simpler"
-Humanists:"I am a human being, nothing human is foreign to me"
-Intuitive: "Not everything that can be counted, counts, and not everything that counts, can be counted"
-Anti-materialist: Less is often more. Be careful not to know the price of everything and the value of nothing.
-Constructionist: We do not see things as they are, we see them as we are.
-Christian post-modern anarchists: Question authority, trust experience. ..

ok, now this is just getting silly. But other recurring thoughts tend to relate to social justice, anti-border/nation state ideas (there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female...), distributed power, personal empowerment, seeking natural balances.

Por que estou no Couchsurfing?

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We tend to host about quarter of the time while home, and always try to meet a CS-er or two if we go on a trip. When life gets too busy, we change to a non-hosting status for a while.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We have hosted a quite a few travelers in our home and we've been hosted in US and Europe on our last couple of road trips by a big number of awesome families and individuals. We love the idea, mainly because the special quality of the people participating - we can't imagine traveling again without trying to meet some from this great bunch of people.

Músicas, Filmes e Livros

-Non fiction books are great (because reality is so exciting, although we tend to forget). Last few books were from Noam Chomsky, Robert Pirsig, Jack Kerouac, Salman Rushdie. Erich Maria Remarque, Gabriel García Márquez, Salman Rushdie were some amazing highlights over the years.
-Small or independent movies, movies of the likes of Trier and European movies (reality!), quirky comedies (Black Books, Mighty Boosh). For pure cinematic bliss, Terence Malick's “New World” and “Tree of Life”, “Hidden life”. Or for great acting, Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Synecdoche (2008) , The Master (2012)… or a foreign movie Never look away (2018). Movies with heart, anything from Sean Baker or Ken Loach.
-We love heaps of music, Britain of late 60s, latin-jazz (Pat Metheny), prog-rock (from King Crimson to Radiohead), world music (French accordion does it for Bea every time), Breaking Bad soundtrack. Jazz, rock, americana, various fusions of genres, creative covers.

Uma Coisa Incrível que Eu Fiz

Most of our fondest memories are quite small things, time spent with people, foods and drinks we tried, mountains and roads traversed, things or time given selflessly. But since the question is about amazing things...one thing that is "out of this earth" was being "born again" when we first believed in God (we're not religious though and we never push our faith onto anyone :) ). Dad witnessing Mum giving birth to our kids is also up there. On the more "down to the ground" level, nothing beats chartering a sailing boat in Whitsunday islands (http://aubartus.com/whit2002.html and

Ensine, Aprenda, Compartilhe

We are very happy to teach English, share with you Beata's knowledge in cooking, Zoltan's knowledge of business, our combined experiences in Eastern Europe/New Zealand and Australia. We'd love to just hear your story, and gain insight into how your country/society works, local cooking, etc.

O Que Posso Compartilhar com Anfitriões

More than happy to make ourselves useful around the house, cook a meal to share, bring and leave positive energy.
