Music, Movies, and Books
This list can really be endless.
I do pretty much everything listening to music and depending of my mood that can be classic, samba, rock and even Beyoncé.
I have a special relationship with brazilian music. Bossa Nova, Samba de Raiz, Chorinho, Chico Buarque, Novos Baianos... The feeling these kind of music brings to me is the one that makes me understand why Brazilians are known as a cheerful people, with a smile on and a hug ready for anyone, from anywhere. Even paulistanos!
But i also really enjoy soul and R&B music and singers as Lauryn Hill, Esperanza Spalding, Erykah Badu (wish I could married this woman!)...
About books, well the first one will be Harry Potter, once this is where I got my English from! I was so crazy about it (nerd, I know) that I couldn’t wait for the Portuguese translation. So I started read the English version, with the dictionary :).
Now that I’m older, my favorite author is one from Angola/Portugal called Valter Hugo Mae. I never read something written with such sensibility. I also love russian authors like Tolstoi and the British ladies Jane Austen and Bronte sisters.
I love movies that talks about life itself, the ones where the public can see their own lives in it. My favorite is Her from Spike Jonze. Boyhood is also another of my favorites. And most of the Argentinean ones, like Medianeras! Oh, and almost all of the movies from Almodovar. I love how he can put together drag queens, gays and nuns and how he brings gender/sexuality to the debate by showing how fluid these subjects are.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I’ve knocked off my parents at 18, without money, job and any help from them or beloved ones. Actually, those who helped me the most were strangers! This experience was and still is amazing because suddenly it was just me and life, that was saying “so, now it’s up to you. What are you going to do?”. And I think I’m doing a pretty good job, living my life the most truth to myself that I can be, considering all the limits that society imposes on you. I try to be the most opened mind I can and people are always surprising me by showing that you can live your life in a lots of different ways.
