我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

I used to be a proper tourist, always trying to squeeze as much sightseeing as I could to the shortest possible time. But at some point I realised I want more. (or less?)

At that point I discovered the beauty of wandering and getting lost on purpose; and I realised I prefer that over ticking the must-see attractions off a checklist. I prefer that because wandering takes me to random spots and thanks to that I can reveal the real face of the place I am visiting. It leads to having raw and authentic experience(s). But usually there is no authenticity without people - so to answer the question - locals are the reason I am on Couchsurfing. I perceive CS as a platform that brings people together so that we could find similarities and smile over diversities. A shiny resort does not allow me to see how a local's daily life looks like.

Traveling is my biggest passion - my drug of choice.

It is my favourite form of education, source of excitement and an opportunity for self-development. Meeting people from different backgrounds, having conversations about nothing and everything and letting spectacular views take my breath away is what I consider time well spent. And besides new places and faces, there is always a series of lessons waiting for me at the other end of each flight. Plus the biggest and the most important lesson usually catches me up right after getting back home. Every time I return, I perceive my country, myself and life a bit differently. Wherever I go, it becomes a part of me somehow; it makes me look at things from a new perspective and it makes me feel grateful for what I have.

As Marcel Proust said: "The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes."
