About Me
ABOUT ME
I'm an easygoing guy, and I try to be helpful and considerate. I'm usually too lazy to be doing wildly different stuff on my own. I guess who I am is partly shaped by what I do: I'm training to be a physicist, so part of me does fit that archetypal physicist caricature. (I don't really watch that slice-of-life documentary called The Big Bang Theory. :-p)
Interests
I like to take long (~>25km, 15mi) walks and I like getting lost that way. It's a good thing, because I don't have a sense of direction! I also enjoy stay-indoors geeky stuff, like board games. I have also been known from time to time to have rolled a few d20's. ;) I'm right now in the last year of my PhD, so none of that's happening with any kind of frequency these days. Once I defend my thesis, I'll be out-and-about again. (FREEEEEDOOOOOOOOM!)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
* In the Gezi Park riots in 2013, the kind of solidarity millions of random people showed each other. The open air cooked/paid-by-protesters food stalls, the open air libraries that were set up by people bringing their books, people from all walks of life and all sorts of political sides (except those that were for Erdogan) came together. I was truly awestruck. It brought tears to my eyes, but for that part, I might as well not have bothered--because of the tear gas. (Hey if you need to cry, your government's got your back!) The level of brutality by the police and the heavy use of plastic bullets in the next few days were of amazing proportions. I learned that I could run for about 30 seconds without breathing and with eyes closed, and still jump over rolling gas canisters that I somehow knew were there.
