About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Getting my education done and, of course, saving the world.

I am finishing my master's in sustainable resource management next winter at the Technical University of Munich in Freising.

ABOUT ME

Caring for the planet Earth and its living beings is important to me, but I also like to relax and have fun. I have a bachelor's degree in sustainable agriculture. If you decide to meet with me, you can expect interesting conversations, a relaxed time with a cup of tea or maybe with a glass of wine or a beer, and spontaneous adventures.

My parents have a permaculture project in Finland: https://iso-orvokkiniitty.fi/dpaerkki/

IMPORTANT I don’t use Couchsurfing as a dating site. I have a boyfriend, and I expect you to respect my borders.

You can find me on Instagram with the name hipinretale. :)

PHILOSOPHY

"The idea that some lives matter less is the root of all that is wrong with the world."
- Dr. Paul Farmer

"The least I can do is to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves"
- Jane Goodall

"All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
- J. R. R. Tolkien

"If you get tired, learn to rest, not quit."
- Bansky

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The more I travel the more I realize how important part the people I meet are for having a good experience. Sometimes I just remember the people I met, not the cities I saw. :)

IMPORTANT!
I do not use Couchsurfing as a dating site, so if that is where your interest lies, do not contact me!
If you wish to surf with me, I expect you to write a personalised message or at least have a complete profile so I can have an idea of who you are. If you read this, write in the message what your favourite plant is. :)

Interests

Sustainability in all forms, but I specialise in agriculture. Traveling especially long-distance cycling and hitchhiking. My favourite art forms are circus, dancing, theatre, and music. I also like to perform myself, but the most fun is when you can do these things with friends. I also like to paint and draw. And I'm a friend of handicrafts, such as knitting, basket making, sewing, and some woodwork and pottery. I like food (vegetarian, organic, or even better if it's vegan), doing, and eating. :D I love stories from different cultures.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like too many types of music to give a specific description, but generally weird stuff. For example, Cari Cari, Otyken, Kimya Dawson, Elephant Tree, The Burning, Beans and Toast, Hell, alt-J, Boy & Bear, Jethro Tull, Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, Iggie Pop, Kingston Wall, Sofia Isella, Angus Stone, Octa Logue, System Of A Down, Gojira, Korpiklaani, Zeal & Ardor, Heilung, Danheim, Fever Ray, Beats Antique, Massive Attack, etc...

Movies & series: My favourite movie directors are Miyazaki and Tarantino. Other movies & series I like are, for example, Adventure Time, Disenchantment, Rick and Morty, Wednesday, the Queen's Gambit, No Hard Feelings, Swiss Army Man, Fight Club, Coraline, Juno, Persepolis, Black cat white cat, V for Vendetta, Midsommar, Amelie, The Grand Hotel Budapest, Lord Of The Rings, etc...

Books: Ronja the robber's daughter, the Moomins, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, the Little Prince, Veronika Decides to Die, etc... I also love storybooks for kids and mythologies, e.g. from the Vikings and Greek and the Finnish Kalevala.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Five months internship in Ghana, visiting Palestine, hiking in magnificent places, long-distance cycling trips, hitchhiking in Scandinavia and Europe, wwoofing in Italy and Germany with my boyfriend.

Teach, Learn, Share

If you visit us at my parents' place, I can teach you permaculture gardening and sustainable living. I can teach some handcrafts like knitting, making baskets, etc., or circus stuff like contact staff and fire eating or some acrobatics. I can teach some edible wild plants in Finland and how to make food from them. I can also teach how to make vegan food and how to bake vegan. I can teach the Finnish language, history, and culture.

I like to learn more about many, many, many things. Perhaps now I would like to learn more about sustainable development and permaculture. I would also like to know more about social matters and politics. And I'm always interested in learning more about other cultures.
