ABOUT ME

I have been experiencing the most unbelievable coincidences for two years now. It blows my mind and I've even become blase about it. Things like I read a David Berman poem called "Snow" which I really like and the next day my friend Hilary mails me two poems in the mail out of the blue, one being "Snow." No prior knowledge or discussion. Just boom. I've never felt so engaged in life as in the last few years. I've stopped chasing things and changed my depth of field so that the closer objects are more in focus and my eye is not straining to identify everything on the horizon. I've developed my writing into a habit after years of sporadic bursts, started creating art, specifically collage and found, quite by accident, that it shares much in common with poetry, another passion. I've had two great loves since moving to Northampton from LA but currently I'm reveling in solitude at will and spending more time with my good friends. Much as I'm not chasing my future anymore, I'm not casting about for a companion either. I found it funny that when I unchecked 'single' on Facebook, yet didn't check "In a Realtionship," Facebook still sent out a little heart icon message to all my friends saying "Jim is no longer single." Where's the box that says "Just fine, thanks"? I get what I need and don't leave a trail of dead in my wake. Two lessons I've learned in recent years: You have to lose it all before you see that you didn't need it after all. To give is to receive. To take is to lose.
