About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Married 55 years, we enjoy meeting new folks, especially people from other countries and cultures.

ABOUT ME

Don, a university math professor, and Gayle, full time mother, raised 6 children on a small hobby farm in northern Wisconsin. After teaching at UW-Superior for 30 years, Don answered a call for native English speaking math teachers who were needed in the United Arab Emirates. After spending 6 wonderful years at the United Arab Emirates University in Al Ain, we returned to the United States in 1997, actually grieving for the desert! Now we live in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona where we are 40 miles from the Mexican border and 100 miles from the Sea of Cortez at Puerto Penasco, Mexico. We're looking forward to hosting interesting people for short visits here in Ajo, AZ. In fact, today (Jan. 26, 2009) we began our Couch Surfing career by inviting a nice couple from Germany to our home for a few nights. They had just arrived in town and we met them on the sidewalk beside our church, near the lovely plaza in Ajo.

PHILOSOPHY

We are Catholics who believe in God, but a God who is open and welcoming to all.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Don and I spent 6 years, 1990-97, in the United Arab Emirates. It was the adventure of our lives, although we still keep having adventures with our new orchard in Ajo. What a great life!

Teach, Learn, Share

We are developing an orchard and plots for neighborhood gardens on the lot behind our home. Calling it "Loma Bonita", we hope to eventually have organic fruits and veggies to share with the Ajo community. We are also heavily involved with the St. Vincent's thrift store in Ajo.
