Make the most of a two month break from work

ABOUT ME

I'm a pretty easy going guy that has longed for years to see the world. I've finally managed to get my savings together, so myself and my girlfriend Emma are planning to head third week in July 2009.

The only parameters to this trip are that I have agreed a transfer with the company I work for to begin work in Melbourne, to work there for 9 months, from the third week in September.

We've booked the flights...

We fly to New York on the 19/07, and leave Los Angeles on the 20/08, with an overland leg in between. We're hiring a car.

We leave Los Angeles and fly to Melbourne, approximately 4 weeks before I start work, and we're spending time with some friends in NZ for 3 weeks.

I am looking forward to meeting lots of new people on my travels and having a much more interesting time than if I was staying in hotels !

PHILOSOPHY

We're planning to get a flat in Melbourne, so there may be a couch available once we get there !

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

22/07/09 > 26/07/09: Surfed Amit/Frank & Dileep's couch in Jersey City. Hosts were very hospitable and friendly and we had a great time.

Looking at some of the amazing things that others have done through CS, I don't really have anything that is on a par that I can draw upon yet. This is the reason we're going travelling, so I'll maybe have something to put here soon - watch this space !

Um, I'm a professional COBOL and C programmer - not sure if I would be able to pass that on to anyone ! Emma is a qualified primary school teacher and has experience tutoring kids.

I'd like to learn how to play guitar.
