ABOUT ME

Hi there! Im Mieke, im 23 years old, and I live in Amsterdam. Unfortunaltely i have really small house, with only 1 small single bed and not even a couch.. In fact, it's so small you dont even have to get out of bed to get something from the fridge. Like Johan Cruijff (almost) said: "every disadvantage has their advantage". Ah well
I like to travel, but i hardly ever have money, so i have to really do my best to get around. This initiative is really perfect for me! I hope to get to many interesting places the next few years!
I'm studying Japanese language and culture at Leiden university, and currently in 3rd year (almost graduated!). I'll be doing the Masters this year, and get to go to Japan next spring!

PHILOSOPHY

I'm trying to discover what it is that makes people happy in life. I think that for me, freedom plays a big part, but for other people it might be different. If you have any ideas, let's share!

Music, Movies, and Books

Big hiphop and raggae fan (esp Japanese, like Rickie G etc), I like also punk (Rancid!), rock, lounge and elektro =D Actually anything if it's not country, or Dutch music, but I won't expect to find any of that abroad (I hope so...)
Movies, I like about anything except scary ones. I have kinda weak stomach so I can't endure those. Really just depends on the mood im in. But in general, i love watching movies! My all time favorite has to be Mind Game.
I don't read that many books cause of lack of time, but i do like to. I found Mijn Woestijn by Waris Dirie and Kobie Kruger's book about her life in a game reserve in South Africa especially impressive.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm not really sure, but they might include: swimming with sea turtles in Miyako and riding the glacier Vatnajökull in Iceland. And the last time I went to the Efteling.
