ABOUT ME
I have recently returned to my life in Calgary, Alberta, after a 7 month Leave of Absence to live in beautiful Nelson BC, where my husband was working this year. We are back in our house and back to our former jobs in Calgary, with a plan to visit Nelson when we can. I would highly recommend an LOA from work! I am ready to be back and feel rejuvenated. Our time in Nelson allowed us to "try on" a small townw (10,000) in thinking ahead to retirement. We loved it. Life in Calgary has many opportunities, but we find the
busy-ness and distances detract. For now, we will enjoy our friends, and our home, and the trips to the mountains, and look forward to a quieter life in time. I love views of mountains and oceans, enjoy music, art, wine, food/cooking, x-country, curling, travel. Our families, and our daughters, live in other parts of Canada and we look forward to future trips and visitors here. Once we are settled sufficiently, I look forward to hosting surfers!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I'm a new member! I had my first surf with a lovely host/now a friend in Spokane. Finding a kindred spirit on a brief trip was wonderful. I discovered a lovely neighbourhood, met some of her friends. She introduced me to Artfest, and to the tradition of the "potlatch". We shared cooking, eating, and good conversation, and I listened to her play the harp! I look forward to hosting later on.
Interests
Outside of my work, I curl on a women's team, bake, play the piano (not often enough), stay in touch with our two daughters, and do occasional crafts such as knitting or sewing. I enjoy swimming laps at the local pool, but find I quickly get out of the habit (note to self: get back in!).

Music, Movies, and Books
I read a lot of Edith Wharton this past six months, including The Age of Innocence (E. Wharton, 1920) and was greatly impressed. I also recommend Dave Eggers, Jane Urquhart, and I enjoy autobiographies by people who have overcome hardship. I seek good writers, regardless of content and genre. I'm reading some Leonard Cohen currently.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In 2008, we travelled to Brno, Czech Republic and friends there took us to underground caves that were absolutley incredible, complete with classical music playing in the depths.
