About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To take an iron staff and wear iron sandles, then to walk the earth until the sandals are broken and the staff torn asunder.

ABOUT ME

I am a fairly easy going, nice guy looking for a few new expiriences in this world. Although I have lived for most of my life in Asheville, NC and love this town dearly, I feel I must be away from it for a while. I like to think I get along well with nearly everyone I know and with people I don't know. I enjoy science and math talks, but don't feel uncomfortable with sharing philosophy talks on Art. When talking's not called for I am a man of action, ready for anything and looking to enjoy myself. I enjoy Chess, Go, and good beer. Contact me if you'd like to know more.

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy is a bit murky at this point. Our society has deigned to not provide a clear position or structure to my life as of yet and everything I've ever wanted to do has yet to come to fruition. Basically I find myself to be a bit lost and I think it'll be better to be lost on the road, than lost in this small town, wonderful though it may be. A severe heartbreak has led to this current philosophy, but the wanderlust has always been upon me for as long as I can remember, so I'll travel.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have hosted couch surfers in our home several times, (gonna put my soon-to-be ex-roomies on here as my friends). I have attended one meeting in Asheville and find that this brotherhood of travelers and hosts is one of the most fascinating and wonderful things I've heard of in quite a while. I plan to stay active in the community until it dissolves or until I die.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couch-surfed for about 3 months when I didn't have a place to stay during summer break and didn't have a job that would afford me rent money. Mostly it was my good friends in Asheville that allowed me to sleep on their porch for free. Although it sounds rough, sleeping outside on the porch on nice summer nights in Asheville is one of the nicest things to do in the world.

Interests

I am interested in socializing, beers, philosophy, mathematics, Computers, science in general, Chess, and Go.

Music, Movies, and Books

I generally enjoy good movies, I have worked my way through most of IMDB's top 100 movie picks and many of my favorites are contained within its glossy internet pages. However, a good kung fu flick, or mindless comedy is good on occassion in order to shut the old nogin off for an hour or two.

As for music, I am a large fan of hip-hop and specifically the Wu Tang Clan. I also enjoy Ambient, Folk, Old-time, Jazz, and Heavy Metal. This genre list seems diverse and its because I listen to different things for different moods that I have occassion to have. I am pretty much open to any music however.

In the literary world I feel entirely comfortable as I am an avid reader and have occassion to finish about 1-2 books a week in my spare time. This is a slow down from my youth, but the new pressures of adulthood combined with the internet have led me to read far less in the physical realm. I read anything and everything and love learning new subjects. Currently I've been focusing on Economics and Financial Mathematics but have recently also read a book about Don King, the Vietnam War, and JFK. I love suggestions and new books though so feel free to recommend some if you think any are particularly worthy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was thirteen years old I was standing on a street corner in Virginia Beach, VA. It was a wonderful summer day. A bit too hot for my tastes but all in all pretty good for Virginia Beach. Every leaf was vibrant green, people were engaged in various activities around us and life was normal. For some reason I was focusing intently on the intersection of the street and the cars going by. With this concentration trained upon that spot I was able to see, detail by detail, every specific aspect of a woman, on a cell phone, T-bone a man in a volkswagon. I could hear the crunch, see the man's face, watch the woman's body jerk upon impact of the crash, the whole nine yards. Needless to say this was burned into my memory for all times and can still recount every detail. I don't really tell the story much because there's not much to tell, but I constantly think on this scene when contemplating my own mortality.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have been known to study many topics and a variety of art forms. My specialties include mathematics, computer science, and philosophy. I like to try and be a bit of a renissance man in the modern world and have picked up the basics and rudimentary skills in a variety of disciplines. Also I love learning new things or teaching people new skills as I find it to be an enjoyable activity.
