About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm starting in Germany and heading east east east to Japan. I would love to see you along the way. Let's find something other people have forgotten about and explore!

ABOUT ME

At first you might notice that I am very tall. Hopefully you'll get over that soon and we can get onto more interesting topics of conversation!

PHILOSOPHY

I'm still working this out for myself, but I can say this:
I'm excited to challenge myself, to push my own comfort past breaking so I can become stronger, to experience beauty in all its forms, to disappear from the map for a while, to meet wonderful people, to learn to deal with the not-so-wonderful ones too, to be open to unexpected change and strong enough to hold on for the ride when it comes.

Interests

Lying on my back and staring up at the stars.

Making and watching films, taking photos, reading books, listening to and playing music, exploring ruins and underground tunnels, engaging with art, making things

Music, Movies, and Books

Michael Haneke - Hidden (Cache)
Stanley Kubrick - 2001: A Space Odyssey
Terrence Malick - Badlands
Billy Wilder - The Apartment
I love cinema, from big budget movies to arthouse gems, I'm not picky. The four directors and films above have had a huge influence on me.

In no particular order: The Beatles, Aphex Twin, Radiohead, Deerhoof, Mission of Burma, Pere Ubu, Wire, Pixies, Steinski, Deltron 3030, Rocket from the Tombs, Richard Hell & the Voidoids, Ramones, LCD Soundsystem, Minutemen, The Fall... These are just what i can honestly call my "favourites". I'm open to any music you want to throw at me, and have seen acts from all around the world, from Seun Kuti and Tony Allen to Pixies to the Bedouin Jerry Can Band.

At the moment I'm reading: Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace.
My favourite book is The New York Trilogy by Paul Auster.
The 4 most recent good books I've read:
The Wind Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami
Number9Dream by David Mitchell
Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell
War by Sebastian Junger

I also really like graphic novels/comics. Not really superman and stuff, more like Watchmen, Maus, DMZ, Sandman etc. (although i've read some amazing superman stories too)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Whilst in Hawaii, we travelled down to the coast to have a look at the lava flow. We walked a few km and stopped as it got dark. You could basically just see the red glow of the lava flowing into the ocean with clouds of steam. We watched it for a while and started walking back. On the journey back I turned around, and there was this bright, thin red line slowly growing longer and longer on the horizon. We ran back to a good spot and watched as the line grew then fell over a cliff! The rock shelf created by the lava had fallen away, so we were looking at a lava cascade! We could see it pouring over the edge onto the ground below and then flowing into the sea. It was amazing! The chances that we'd be there when the shelf collapsed was one in a million! A ranger said it was a once-in-a-lifetime type deal!
