About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To prove Thomas Jefferon wrong, that traveling will make you wiser but more unhappy.

ABOUT ME

Im Chinese-American, born and raised in sunny Southern California where the cows are happy and the trendy service staff are all beautiful and starving for work in Hollywood. Practically speaking, here are some important things to know about me:
1. I'm not offensive smelling, so I've been told anyways.
2. I'm not offensive looking or so I've been told, but the jury may still be out on that one.
3. I'm not offensive sounding, my voice that is. I've been told I would make a great telephone operator.
4. I've been told I taste pretty okay, but that's probably not imporant for CS purposes.

There's lots of stuff I like, lots of sutff I don't like, lots of stuff maybe I don't like now but I might like later and vice versa. The point is that I'm pretty open minded and friendly.

Great conversations are the stuff of life, though, I have to admit, sometimes the chemistry isn't there. But when it is, it's simply magical for me.

PHILOSOPHY

Food - Life-changing meals can come from the cheapest/dirtiest hole-in-the-wall dives to the blue-chip culinary artists of our day. Keep an open mind.

Dance - Like another language but articulated with the body. Moving as one unit with another person is a beautiful thing.

Fashion/Art - As a social creature, you will see and be seen; dress accordingly!

Getting Lost - I believe that failing to plan is planning to fail, but sometimes you just have to let go and trust that hidden treasures will reveal themselves to you if you keep an open mind.

In vino veritas!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

You never know when the next person you meet, accidently bump into, stand next to at the bus stop, sit next to in the hostel lobby, or dance with in a salsa class, could fundamentally change your life. If enough people put themselves out there to this possibility, the world will seem a little less scary and more open to the surprises of the unknown and to finding the beauty in our differences. (That was kind of corny but it's truue!)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None what so ever. Please help!

Interests

Dancing - all sorts; food - will try almost anything; fashion; philosophizing; crossword puzzles - for maintaining and enhancing mental dexterity; painting - oil; learning italian; taking long mid-day naps; being with good people; good wine and bread; traveling obviously; meeting new people; making meaningful connections; attending intimate concerts; attending huge concerts; shopping - eBay!; staring into space; getting lost and obsessed with a great book; sitting silent on the beach, sitting silent in a coffee shop, people-watching; politics & current events; shoes! shoes! shoes!; new experiences; resting and resetting from 1 1/2 years in Cubeland!

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: Anything that will help me learn or escape. Can't go wrong with anything by Pixar or Hitchcock.

Music: Anything I can relax to or dance to. For latin-style dancing, I like Hector Lavoe, El Gran Combo, Orishas and Africando, among many others. For relaxing, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Carla Bruni, Nouvelle Vague, vintage Elton John, Gotan Project, Thievery Corp. Music that gives me chills: John Lenin, Quwali music, Patsy Cline singing "Crazy"; Etta James singing "At Last" which I will see live later on this month at the Hollywood Bowl. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps :)

Books: Currently reading Omnivore's Dilemma, Invisible Man, Middlesex and Idiot's Guide to Italian

Life changing reads include The Fountainhead, Shantaram, Of Mice and Men, Harry Potter series. I also love stories about underdogs and second chances.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a constant work in progress and I'm happy to share what little working knowledge of the world I have with anyone who wants it. I have a fairly strong command of American English and I can teach a little bit of salsa, merengue, cha-cha, and bachata. I can also speak Cantonese and shamelessly/ineptly flirt in 3 others :).
