About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Exploring the Northwest by bike!
ABOUT ME
I'm a strange mix of restless explorer and reclusive loner? But I value good company above all else in life.
As a surfer, I will cook you food and befriend your pets; as a host I'll take you to my favorite haunts (and hopefully discover new ones along the way)!
PHILOSOPHY
I think there's a part of most of us that struggles to be cautious but fair, forthright but not overbearing, engaged without attachment (in the Buddhist sense).
I also think we're all works in progress and don't know what the hell we're doing.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've attended a few local CS events, but mainly browse, at this point.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've crashed on too many couches to count (and even a few hardwood floors), many of them belonging to kind folks I'd just met.
The most memorable of these was in Sedona, where an older hippie named J.R. let us camp on his trailer floor on the reservation, showed us real hieroglyphics, steep hiking trails and more stars than I'd ever (or have since) seen. He even shared some of his chocolate stash and played us a song he'd written and recorded for a dying friend.
It was then that I first learned real hospitality is not in what you have; it's in how much you're willing to connect.
Interests
Writing, scribbling, improvising on violin, speaking/listening in Italian, palling around with new people, ogling glowy installation art, cooking with friends, dressing up silly, riding buses to the end of the line

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Electronic and goth, folk, the Cure, Faith and the Muse, CocoRosie, Sleater-Kinney, Mirah, the Antlers, a lot of Portland bands...
Books: Ram Dass, Aldous Huxley, Tom Robbins, Italo Calvino, Haruki Murakami, Hunter S. Thompson (especially the Rum Diary and Hell's Angels), various texts on mysticism and philosophy
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Overzealous summer sun and snowy ski hills within the same hour. It was absolutely disorienting.
Vortexes in Sedona, Arizona, are also quite the experience.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you to saute basic pasta sauces or help with the grammar in that brilliant anarcho-sci-fi novella you're working on. Maybe even help you cut your hair, but no guarantees on the outcome. ;)
I really want to learn more basic bicycle maintenance and Spanish, and if you know anything about astronomy or microbiology I will probably spend hours picking your brain while feeding you beer.
