About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To explore Europe

ABOUT ME

One of my ongoing life goals is to explore as many destinations around the planet as possible and to find those places that provide unique, off the beaten-track, travel experiences. I enjoy traversing vast, drastic, natural landscapes as well as those places which are iconic for their architecture, history and culture. The opportunity to meet local people really does make the whole travel experience much more insightful and enjoyable. Only locals can really translate what their cities and towns are truly about - something the lone traveler cannot always do. I have been a couch surfer and a couch host and enjoy both aspects of the travel experience.

PHILOSOPHY

A few quotes I like:
- Life is not a rehearsal.
- Until you have done something for humanity you should be ashamed to die.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now, I am a traveler and am therefore looking for hosts while I am in Europe for this summer (2012 summer - I arrive June 1st).

As I currently don't officially have a home, I am not hosting, but I plan to again once I have myself set up, most likely in Berlin.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've surfed and hosted.

When in Carins in 2009 I met a really nice girl who took me out of town to the mountains and to the beaches which was a great experience. I had no idea of those places even as an Australian myself.

In 2010 I traveled to Tasmania and had 3 awesome hosts who put me up and pointed out where the cool places to hang were. I ended meeting their friends as well and am still in contact with them.

I've had about 8 Europeans stay at my place in Melbourne since being on CS.

Interests

When I'm not travelling or thinking about travelling, I am playing guitar (mainly old school jazz), writing music, learning a language (German at the moment), drinking coffee, listening to bands, visiting art galleries, salsa dancing, or keeping fit (runs along the beach or in the mountains).

Music, Movies, and Books

I appreciate most music genres. In a nutshell, my favourite bands/performers from each favourite genre are: The Cinematic Orchestra, Bill Frisell, Madlib, Wes Montgomery, Massive Attack, Dangelo, and Arvo Paert. Anything that sounds like what these guys produce I would say is pretty hip.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Awestruck moments would have to be:
1) Snorkeling The Great Barrier Reef out from Port Douglas,
2) Hiking the Himalayas to Everest Base Camp, and
3) Skiing in the Austrian/German alps, particularly Reit Im Winkle.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Cambodia, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Jamaica, Laos, Luxembourg, Monaco, Morocco, Nepal, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States, Vatican City State, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In
