About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To slow the natural pace of my step.

ABOUT ME

I'm currently working on enjoying what I'm doing at the exact moment rather than looking forward to the next thing. I'm one of the most awkward people you'll ever meet. Seriously, I can't take 10 steps without falling down or knocking something over. For this reason I avoid really hot liquids and expensive furniture/collectibles (though I do appreciate their aesthetic value from afar). Also, I'm a pack rat.

PHILOSOPHY

Meaningful enjoyment. To never stop looking for a reason to get up in the morning, but to enjoy the value of each day along the way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Opened my house last fall. Now I'm hoping to find some generous souls who will return the favor.

Interests

Learning. I love history, politics, economics, philosophy, art, whatever you have to share with me. Good beers. Music of all sorts. Crafty projects.

Music, Movies, and Books

Crime and Punishment, Sense and Sensibility, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, How to Steal a Million. I can never remember movies and books when I need to. I always end up walking around the movie rental store for hours and leaving empty handed. I grew up listening to 1950s pop like the Big Bopper and Paul Anka. Currently listening most to, but not limited to: the Strokes, Whigs, Okkervil River, Fleet Foxes, Killers, Broken Social Scene, MGMT, Spoon, M. Ward.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I climbed to the top of Mount Roraima in Venezuela. It was like entering another world. It was the inspiration for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Lost World", the title of which should give you an idea of the impression conveyed by this place. The top is covered in crazy rock formations that tower up into the low lying clouds of fog. There are shallow pools everywhere full of creatures indigenous to that tepui. And the view from the edge overlooking the jungles of Venezuela, Guyana and Brazil from the top is equally breathtaking.

Teach, Learn, Share

I worked in a beer bar for the past year so I've got a decent knowledge of different types of beer, how it's made, where it came from, etc... I'm pretty decent at solving the daily jumble and crosswords.
I love painting but I've had little formal training, so if you have a few pointers I'd love to listen...
