Music, Movies, and Books
I consider myself to be a devoted enthusiast of good music. As a young American girl, I am a rarity in this sense. I appreciate tricky guitar riffs, poetic lyrics that speak to the soul, and catchy beats that force you to move.
Bob Dylan not only captures the essence of life and soul in his music, he IS life.
Other Favorites: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Smiths, The Who, The Velvet Underground, The Shins, Elliot Smith, Andrew Bird, Annie DiFranco, Tegan and Sara, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Beach Boys, Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, The Clash, The Ramones, Franz Ferdinand...
Books- I am currently enjoying personal narratives (notably from Frank McCourt, Annie Dillard, and David Sedaris)
I also enjoy reading popular novels, then comparing them to their film adaptation (even though the films are always inferior to the novels)
Moves- I am an absolute geek for good films. It is hard to determine favorites, as I am constantly experiencing new films from different countries, genres, and eras. I currently love Network, On The Waterfront, Amelie, The Departed, Office Space, High Fidelity, Borat, 500 Days of Summer, Fight Club...
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I camped on a secluded beach island in southern Florida, USA for a week in 2009. I had no shelter, no kitchen, no computer, no television, no cell phone, no shower, no communication with the outside world, no clock or sense of time, and no mirror. It was an amazingly liberating experience that forced me to appreciate the nature and people in my physical surrounding (even though some of the conversations were still about funny youtube videos).
