ABOUT ME

We're an Israeli couple, of Russian-Iraqi origins (Alisa was born in Russia, Dan was born in Israel in a Jewish-Iraqi family). We love to travel. Not so long ago we spent amazing 6 months in India - and Dan continued to explore Sri Lanka for another month. We spent some long time in Latin America too.

While in India we tried to stick to Indian books and Indian movies. Dan is a big fun of Arundhati Roy, so we travel with one of her non-fictions, translated to Hebrew. Just bought her recent Listening to the Grasshopers, but haven't read it yet. Here we discovered Gita Mehta's non-fiction and Kiran Desai's novels, and liked both - though we do have some issues with them, which we'd love to discuss. We also enjoyed Chetan Bhagat - at least when he's being funny and not nagging... He does have the habit of putting long speeches in the mouth of his characters, doesn't he? And on the compleet other side, we've read Khushwant Singh's classic Train to Pakistan, about the violence during partition time.

Oh, and as for movies - we LOVED Om Shanty OM and Dil Bole Haddipa! Some of Bollywood's more "new school" movies do not appeal to us. And we're still waiting for someone to turn us on about Indian music.
