About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Live, learn, breathe, enjoy the journey

ABOUT ME
I think most people would say I'm a pretty easy going and mellow guy. I'm pretty disillusioned with politics, but I really enjoy exchanging perspectives on the world with open-minded people. I also relish solitude from time to time when I need to clear my mind.

PHILOSOPHY
Stay present

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I think it's pretty neat to help people out when I can; whether that means a place to stay, a home cooked meal, or sharing some friendly advice. The exchange of genuine generosity and gratitude between strangers is a refreshing experience.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've surfed quite a few times in Europe and Mexico and hosted a few folks as well. I would really like to host more often than I do, but my living situation hasn't really been conducive these last few years.

Interests

Food is really central for me. I'm not sure how it became that way. I guess I'm drawn to the universality of the enjoyment of eating in the human experience. It seems like an opportunity to find common ground with almost anyone. I love all kinds of food. I love the vastness of smells, textures, flavors, colors, and shapes. I like to ogle ingredients, they are beautiful to me. I am endlessly fascinated by the nature of food: the plants and animals that make it up. The chemistry of changing food through cooking. The endless combinations. It's cool. So cooking, gardening, and eating are really big in my life.

I love to be outdoors. Hiking and backpacking are favorites. I like to swim in really cold and clean lakes in the summer. Skiing in the winter is great when I can afford it.

I don't think of myself as a typical sports fan (whatever that means), but I really like baseball and I'll watch football, soccer, and mma if I have the time.

Music, Movies, and Books

I can get into any music that doesn't come off as disposable or too hip for it's own good. By that I mean something I can listen to 100 times and then pick it up two years later and it still sounds good. It's probably a lot easier to describe what I don't like when it comes to music.

Movies are kind of the same thing. I can enjoy a Hollywood blockbuster just as much as some artsy intellectual film as long as it's well made and takes me on a good ride.

I read a lot of books about farming these days, but I haven't had that much time for non-school reading lately. I've always really liked classic sci-fi novels and dystopian stuff, it's fun to read about what people back in the day imagined the future might be like.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This feels silly to me. I don't really know.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm a pretty good cook and an okay gardener, I think I can teach those things.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am always happy to cook and share some good conversation.
