About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Learning whatever I can, in whatever way it happens.

ABOUT ME

I am a 24 year old student, I love to travel and learn whatever I can. I'm interested in people, new ideas, and debating big questions!

I'm coming to Copenhagen for CoP15, and joined CS this year because I'd love to meet anyone living there who's interested in climate change, or could show me around your city while I'm there.

PHILOSOPHY

I am undecided, and I think that's a good way to be. I study at university in Canberra, but I take plenty of breaks to get away, change my view on life, and learn in different ways. I remain skeptical of any certainty about life, I guess the only thing we can trust in is change!

I'm involved in sustainability, studying human ecology and concerned about climate change and other problems with our current systems of living. It's a huge area, and I think if you're not involved, or have views on, sustainability, you're totally missing the biggest challenges of our time.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My life interests lead me right to Couch Surfing. The way we treat one another is part of the systemic problem that leads to the results of environmental degradation and disrespect of 'the other'. Only by acknowledging the needs, safety and value of other people and entities in our world are we able to fully appreciate what drives this planet and the way we live.

I think fear of strangers is really common in the world today, and the first step to making change is overcoming this fear and facing the complexity of the world head on. Couch Surfing is building a community that supports trust of strangers, allowing us to get to know people who are going to teach us something, if not become friends. Who wouldn't be a part of that?

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am new to couch surfing.com, but I've had amazing experiences on the couches of locals on my travels. One of the best was a night of Turkish hospitality when a friend and I were walking through parts of Cappadocia. A family took us in, fed us, and we played backgammon til late.

Interests

I find music, good company, dancing, cooking, and adventures are the best way to find it. I sing, play a bit of poor guitar, and enjoy late night bike rides through Canberra on my way home from adventures with friends.

I love to bushwalk, body surf, snorkel, bike ride, and be in the beautiful places of Australia that are away from cities. There's a lot to see out here.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love a lot of music. I play a bit of guitar, and I sing. I don't love everything, but try me! My favourites at the moment off the top of my head are Tom Waits, Cold War Kids, TV on the Radio, Neil Young, Radiohead, and Canberra locals Voss!

A few of my favourite books are The English Patient, Half Asleep in Frog Pyjamas (Tom Robbins!), The God of Small Things, Shantaram, a bit of Terry Pratchett and some truly awful teenage sci-fi. Non fiction I'd recommend The Weathermakers and reports from the IPCC!

Some great movies I've seen recently are Gran Turino, the Reader, I've loved you so long, Mary and Max (please see this film!).
