Overview
About Me
I am from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I have two degrees: a BA from the University of Alberta in Psychology and (Chinese) history, and a BEd from the same university in Social Studies and English-Language Arts. I have worked teaching ESL, testing asphalt for an oil company, working with children affected by autism, and I now work as a high school teacher at an Canadian international high school in Shenzhen, China.
I fly on a man-sized kite to get to work. My real name is "Staglthor". I swam across the ocean to get to China, but only halfway: for the other half I rode on the back of a dinosaur. I like fancy sauce and lots of it.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I remember when I was younger and more broke: I used to travel around to different cities and countries, staying at the cheapest hostels I could find. Now I have enough money to pay for actual hotel rooms; but, when I look back, the people that I meet and the experiences that I used to have just aren't the same.
Meeting interesting fellow travelers here and there might make the experience more interesting.

Music, Movies, and Books
The last band I have found that I really, really liked was "The Sounds".
The last movie that I saw that I really, really liked was "It Follows".
My favourite non-fiction book is probably "Mencius".
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I hiked along the Great Wall for three days and three nights. For two nights me and my accomplice slept in old, abandoned watchtowers. For the third night, we were lucky enough to find an old farmer who just happened to live in the mountains in the middle of nowhere, and who was generous enough to let us crash in a spare room.
