About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My current mission is to have as few missions as possible.

ABOUT ME

I am a singer-songwriter, production manager, and filmmaker. I mover to Glasgow in 2003 to study Physiology at Glasgow University. Following that I trained to be a Biology teacher. Having realised that teaching essentially means you have no life, I moved on to work in my current employment, developing high school resources.

My first language is Gaelic (Scottish), but I am fluent in both.

PHILOSOPHY

Do unto others as you would have them do to you.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I participate by being part of it. I grew up on a very small and remote island with a community of about 250 people. When I first came to the city, I greeted everyone I met one-on-one with such greetings as "goodmorning" or "hello". People told me to stop by looking at me strange. So I would like to welcome people to where I live, my community, wherever that may be. Because a community is a people, not just a name.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haven't travelled nearly enough, but when I do travel I don't just want the shallow experience of drifting in and out of a place, I want to meet the locals and get to know the place through them.

Interests

I love music and film and I'm currently working on two albums, one's a Gaelic Indie Folk album and the other's an Americana album. I like things varied.

I'm making a Buddy Holly documentary over the summer, visiting LA, Lubbock, Nashville and New York. This will be my first time in the US and I'm greatly looking forward to it.

I have a big interest in languages, being bilingual. The 'Gaelic' and 'English' parts of my brain work in very different ways, and I find it fascinating how language affects our perception of who we are. I'd love to stretch myself a little more and spend a year or two in France and a Spanish-speaking country. My great grandfather was a shepherd in Patagonia for a decade and was fluent, so maybe I should head there...

Music, Movies, and Books

I like clever, emotional films. Buddy Holly's music has been my best friend since childhood. I love the Diving Bell and The Butterfly book. I'm currently reading Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close...exceptionally good.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Existed, saved a life, learned to cook well, enjoyed the simple things, travelled in a private jet, written songs that no one else has.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'll happily some Gaelic, a few guitar or mandolin chords, movie editing, sound recording, to anyone willing to learn.

Countries I’ve Visited

Germany, Netherlands

Countries I’ve Lived In

United Kingdom
