COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

The majority of my experience with couch surfing revolves around friends and friends of friends staying at my house when they are traveling.

The most rewarding experience I have had with couch surfing was this summer. I believe in Karma. Me and my boyfriend were cruising through the black hills and stopped in Beulah, Wyoming to pick up some gas. The sky was getting black and we saw a couple (obviously travelers) and their two dogs sitting on the bench outside and asked them where they were headed, of course it was three hours in the opposite direction of us. We wished them luck and left, after driving about 1 minute and realizing the weather was about to get horrible, we turned around and offered them a place to stay for the night and we would take them where they needed to go the following day. They graciously accepted, and we loaded into the already cramped car with their packs (carrying all their life's possessions), and dogs and booked it home. We later found out a tornado touched down less than a mile from where they were sitting. They were some of the most amazing people I have ever met, we learned they had been traveling the last three years across the country, living off the kindness of strangers. We cooked dinner, drank beer, talked and smoked. It was like we had been friends forever. Our neighbors came over for beers, met them and gave them their old car that they were no longer using, yeah it was in rough shape, but i bought a new battery for them and it ran great, now they had shelter and a place to store their belongings. To this day it amazes me how those small decisions can make such a big impact on someones life. I am so thankful we turned around!
