ABOUT ME

Hum. Introspection is not always easy, but let's give it a shot: I am Anne, and I have to admit that am a little bit lazy... Especially about filling out profiles...

But, this is for a good cause. So, who am I? I'm slowly getting to the answer to that question, so I'll keep you posted, but until then, I can tell you that... I am a good listener. I like to find out a lot about other people, I think it's super enriching, interesting... I love people, but also savour solitude. Someone (can't remember who right now) once said that if you're bored when you're alone, it's because you're not in good company.

PHILOSOPHY

Give everyone a chance; never give up on someone just to make your life easier. Opportunities multiply as you seize them. Hard work is never lost...

Be optimistic: you can always cry later...

Jump! Don't stay in your comfort zone... Don't let your insecurities stop you from doing something that appeals to you. Be flexible!! Spontaneity is important. Uncertainty can sometimes add to your life.

The best things are always unplanned.

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It's still limited, but I hope to change that. I couchsurfed in San Francisco - New Year's Eve was so much fun! I also met up with another cser here in Ottawa. He was kind enough to forgive my not answering his cs request while I was traveling *blush of shame*

兴趣

I like... Dancing, very much. Be it on techno or pop, but my favorit-est kind of dancing is the latin kind. I'm also a sucker for a good glass of wine + good food + good company - That will make my day! Is it my French heritage?

This may sound strange, but I'm still amazed when I notice my plants have grown a bit. Haha now I sound like the most boring person on earth. So be it.

Part of my love of reading comes from my fascination with stories, which I'm always up to hearing, so please do not hesitate to share! Fred Pellerin (a Québécois storyteller) has got that down.

I've always had a thing for musicals... I basically know most of the words by heart for Wizard of Oz, Sound of Music, West Side Story, Meet me in St. Louis, Gigi, Seven brides for seven brothers, The King and I... Don't judge me. I also liked (more recently) Across the Universe. Malheureusement, je chante comme un pied.

Movie brainstorm:
Garden State, Chocolat (I want a chocolaterie!!), Fightclub, Breakfast at Tiffany's (I want a cat named CAT), The Gods must be crazy, The science of sleep, Son in Law (Pauly Shore is hilarious), Amélie Poulain, Court Lola court, Auberge espagnole (One day, I will go to Barcelona), Les poupées russes, Québécois movies: La grande séduction, Familia, Crazy. I do have a thing for Les filles de Caleb... I think it's more of an emotional than rational or intellectual thing. Same thing for Anne of Green Gables (she was my red-head role-model when I was younger... When you grow up with a character, it's hard to let go...).

I also have a (probably slightly unhealthy) obsession with Gilmore Girls. Now before you brush it off as just another girly series, give it a chance! Great dialogues, developped characters... You need to watch it several times to really catch all the references - very rich...

I don't really watch TV (snowstorms in my TV + no cable or reception), but there is one show I like to watch online: it's called La Galère, it's Québécois and it's about four women that live together in a house. Ok, I admit it; it's a girly show. But not corny or anything. I particularly like its feminist edge.

Books: I got a dictionary for Christmas and was very happy. Words fascinate me, as well as expressions, and their origins... I love to read. umm

Book brainstorm:
El amor en los tiempos del cholera, La vie devant soi (Romain Gary), Comme un roman (Pennac), Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, Dark Matters (Pullman), Guillaume Vigneault, Prévert, 1984 (Orwell), La servante écarlate (Atwood), My God this is hard... My memory is failing me.

I can teach you French, the basic step to salsa, if that's your thing. The words to «La bohème» de Charles Aznavour (if you ever go to Montmartre, you should at least be able to whistle its tune). I can French braid hair, if that helps? haha

I know how to knit (scarves-I can't do any crazy mitten or sock thing - although I would love to learn!)
