About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Letting go...

ABOUT ME

When I was 11, I was given a school project that required me to put together a timeline of my (short) life up to that point and where I planned to be in the future. I kept that project, not just because I had put so much effort into it (and have the tendency to hoard sentimental things) but mostly because I had pasted pictures of myself as a baby.... (I was a pretty cute kid...I believe, at least).
It so happens that I stumbled upon it again recently.
I had a good laugh at what I had written about myself (so young and naïve!) but the bit that stood out was the bit I had written on what I had planned for myself in the future. I had listed just two things:
1. To become a doctor
2. To travel the world and meet new and interesting people.

I dreamed of being a doctor for most of my child and teenage hood, but I had completely forgotten how fierce my desire to travel was... from such a young age.

So traveling the world has been something I have wanted to do for the longest time. Anyone who travels knows that it's one of the most effective ways to open your mind and broaden your perspective on life and everything in between. The daily grind of life can feel rather two dimensional at times.. traveling is what keeps the blood in my veins pumping.

So I didn't go on to study medicine (I chose something a little less "sexy" ... the therapy's helping me figure out why) and I have not thrown caution to the wind and traveled the world for years on end (which I often tell myself I am going to do - a single bag with a few items of clothing, toothbrush and camera)....but I have traveled. And I am trying to see the world....little piece by little piece.

And as for meeting new and interesting people...well that's why I'm "here" no? Travellers are, 99% of the time, pretty amazing souls and I am always relieved and excited to meet people from around the world who can share experiences with me and teach me something new. It's the easiest way to learn new things - an open mind, open heart and willing ears.
Couchsurfing has been one of the most refreshing social networking platforms I've joined.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love everything travel related but the "hook, line and sinker" about traveling for me is the people you meet along the way. It reminds me how connected we all are - we have similar fundamental worries, aspirations and ideas.
A good way to begin to know yourself and the world that surrounds you is by meeting and engaging with as many people as you can and being willing to listen to as well as share your own experiences.

Patience, the desire to learn and listen... and a good sense of humour ("lame" is a relative concept right? :) and if you don't get my jokes, I'll just assume it's a cultural thing and has zero to do with my jokes!)
